Finishing up my XM177 clone and wondering if u guys can offer some advice on the stock.

If I paint an N stock with Glossy black Plasti-dip will it pass inspection as a vinyl clone? Never used the stuff before...

EDITED: Here she is:

NDS A1 Upper, LW barrel with Tony's Custom slipover flash hider (came from AR15sport with 6 hole carbine handguards-nice surprise)

DPMS Lower with Colt/Bushmaster parts, original A1 pistol grip and Colt N stock (painted with 5 coats Rustoleum, thanks guys!)

Retro Vietnam sling, attached MACV-SOG recon team style

Original Colt metal-follower 20 rd. magazine

Functional cheats are the 16" barrel, 6 position buffer tube, and heavy buffer

She's close enough for me Can't wait to shoot it!

*Ok, so pics aren't loading, anyone want to host for me?

The fiberlite CAR stocks are a little different looking than the vinyl coated aluminum ones (reinforcement ribs on main tube and area around latch).  However, there are some aftermarket plastic stocks available that look pretty close to the aluminum ones.

I found one on ebay, sanded out all the mold lines and painted it with multiple coats of gloss black Rustoleum.
It does the job until I can pick up an aluminum one from Essential Arms (or the real deal, after I win the lottery!)

Are these stocks a close match to a XM177?

I've heard the Tony's stocks are decent copies, except the finish is more of a flat/matte black.
If I were to get one, I'd disassemble it and spray it with some high gloss duracoat (the type you bake)

I'm thinking of getting one of the Essential Arms stocks as they are pretty damn convincing looking, however, I've heard conflicting reports of it being either commercial, mil-spec, or somewhere in between.

Would a gloss black power coat be an acceptable reproduction? There is a powder coat place near me that could do this really cheap.

How much are the Essential Arms stocks. It just says to call for prices. I am just trying to get an idea compared to Tony's.

$110, with a $10 shipping fee.
I ordered one about 3 weeks ago. It's decent, not perfect. Looks like the metal was scratched when painted, I've been thinking about filling, sanding, and repainting it.
I can post some pictures tomorrow morning if you guys want.

I feel like an ass, i totally forgot about taking these pictures!
But, better late than never i guess, here there are:

Ignoring the ugly silver bolt i used to "Mass"ify my stock... it's pretty rough, and definitely not glossy. I'll probably fill the support section with some epoxy, wetsand the whole thing, and apply a bunch of coats of rustoleum gloss black.

I'm not sure if it's worth the $120 in this condition.

Sand blasting and a soft vinyl powder coat would make it look perfect without that much work.

Here is my EA I refinished

That looks fantastic, I'm not familiar with vinyl powder coats at all, what's a good product?

Just wanted to share as i picked up a Tony's C.A.R. aluminium stock. Looks great but is in need of some high gloss paint.

Looks like it's in good condition. Agree about the finish.

Seems like you would need to do the same thing to the essential arms ones.

I really like the way the soft vinyl powder coat came out.
