My M203 barrel just arrived and it appears that my FNMI 20" USGI barrel use to be a host to an M203 due to the wear marks left on the barrel where one would've mounted.

|
Mine also came in today. I took the orange paint off using rubbing alcohol. The tab covering the Colt logo was a pain in the ass to get off. It broke and crumbled and left an edge I couldn't get. I got out a heat gun and heated it just a little and got it off.
The M203 is heavy and just feels well made. I can't wait to mount it to a rifle. Now I just need to get my rifle barrels. The M203, 629, 603, 604, 604 and 723 or 733 is how I will build them. I will get some pics of everything soon. |

WOW thats a lot of rifles. You must be rich!!! View Quote I wish I was rich. I am a poor boy trying to live the American dream! I have just been buying parts here and there when I have the extra cash. my next parts buy will be a couple of months down the road. It is the last of the parts! The M203 is really nicely made. It is heavy and gives that feel of nothing being airsoft. It is going to be a fun rifle to have and an unusual one too. I'm tempted to sell my C7 upper and get a slick side. |

|
I think the orange muzzle and hiding the Colt's logo are only required for shipping into the US.
Maybe there's a new guy in the shipping department in Hong Kong. |

I wish the FNG would have went a bit light on the glue and orange paint. I have to get down inside the barrel. I am happy with this M203. It is nice and well built and it was better than what I expected it to be. It will be a fun gun to take out and shoot. I have some plans for the gas grenades.

Mine was supposed to have the Orange ring but din't have one. The Colt's symbol was covered over, but easily removed as was the adhesive.

Looks great. As far as weight & balance, I was surprised at how good it felt. I get to fire my 603 build tomorrow that mine is on.

I have a question on what the rounds looked like for these in the VN period? I'm having a difficult time finding anything and when I do I don't know if I'm looking at new or vintage rounds.
Thanks -Mark |

If the heads of the mounting screws are cross drilled you guys should safety wire them in place.
Also need to get some side sling adapters on these. Wpns Man |

37Thguy, keep us posted on how it shoots and feels with the M203 on it? Also, tell us what everyone at the range says lol.

44Echo10, is that you carrying the M203? The one picture shows a guy (I'm guessing you) holding the M203. The latch that you push in and open M203 looks to be worn. Was it that worn? If so, was the finish very thin on it? Also, why so many different color flares? What did they do at night? Great photos and thanks for sharing. |

Great photos and thanks for sharing. LOL. No, not me. I'm a bit younger and Ordnance Corps not a Grunt, God bless them, somebody has to do there job, I'm good at fixing things. Uncle let me play with one or two of his 203's back in the 1990's. Photos borrowed from the net for reference purposes. Parachute flares provide illumination, the bigger ones will seriously light some shit up. Colored flares are usually clusters and would designate certain commands depending on SOP. |

Now that is just awesome! Looks good. How does it feel on the end of the rifle? Does it make it feel heavy and unbalanced? My 3rd year,1989, into the USMC they made us do the USMC Rifle Qual with our M16A2 with attached M203. The years before grenadiers had always been issued an M16A2 for Qual week. I had always shot expert the 2 years prior. With the 203 I missed expert by 4 points. It was due to the M203 left to right balance mainly especially in the off hand at 200m. Most of the firing using the hasty sling with a tight position the balance did not effect it as much. The next 2 years I was issued an M16A2 again and qualified expert giving me a 4th award. Not to brag or anything. |

It wouldn't even chamber in an M203 and if it could, it would blow up the launcher because of the aluminum barrel. It's my understanding that the HV rounds will chamber and fire from the M79, being that it has a steel barrel, but you have a good chance of dislocating your shoulder if you do so. I have seen a low velocity prototype flechette for the M203/M79, but it used a unique sabot that held each flechette dart individually, it only had 9 or so darts. It wasn't effective as the velocity was too slow to stabilize the flechettes, hence the reason that they just stayed with the M576 buckshot type rounds. |

If you remove the launcher barrel before installing the launcher, you may note the allenhead set screw that tightens down onto the barrel from under the front band mount.

I am so glad that this thread was started. If it hadn't been I wouldn't have built one. Or I should say building one. Man I need to get on the move and get some barrels. |
