this just looks sexual.

I believe I have a new project, and I'm glad it's a retro one!  Mostly retro

Here it is wearing the can. I'm going to opt for the A1 stock

Any suggestions for the build are welcome, thanks!

Fixed stock or collapsible lower?

Would look awesome with an 603 or 604 upper on a lower with a 2-pos aluminum stock.

I have this set up. I could just re barrel. I need an 18 " barrel with correct profile for that suppressor to work, though.

plante74, Are you looking for a Colt's 20" 1/12 Barrel, or something newer?

Does look like a neat project.

I'm going to roll with an 18" BA barrel profiled for the ops inc 12th model.

I definitely need a fake can like that!
Sweet build!

Thanks but that's a real can on my 605ish build.

It's a Yankee Hill stainless phantom thread mount on a 16" heavy profile carbine barrel I had laying around. It has a carbine gas block under the hand guards and a pinned non-functioning gas block at the rifle position.

It's fun and pretty quiet, sounds like an unsuppressed 22LR and feels much shorter than it is.

Very nice. Is that hand guard shortened?  It looks shorter than Banshees. Maybe it's the angle of the picture.

I've been saying for years that would make the perfect setup. My gunsmith said he could make a 'retro sleeve' for it to give it the HEL look. He really likes Gemtech, the the Ops Inc slipovers are closer in design. If I had the coin, that's definitely what I'd do.

I really want to paint it but I don't think I can bring myself to.

Looks slick in black IMO.

If you went painted I'd go with a VN era OD scheme.

Yeah I paint most of my rifles but don't really want to paint the A1. It would certainly be vn green if I did.

I'm very glad I found this thread. I posted on your pic in the AEM thread about copying you but looks like its been done many times. Is everyone using AEM/Ops cans? I don't have one yet, but i do have a Omega and AAC M4-2k can.

Your rifle came out freaking awesome! Good work!

to keep it retro and save you a few bucks, you can do the black RTV around the charging handle mod.

Thank you!  I haven't seen any other builds with the AEM5 but I also didn't look too hard. The pic I posted up top was my motivator for this build.
