My Starlight mounted on my XM16E1 next to my Early Early XM16E1 and XM177E2. Sorry had to show off!

Man the rifle is off balance with that big ol scope!

That's a beautiful sight right there!  Overall and individual sight.   So, tell us about the scope......is it a PVS2?  Is it operational?   Have  you used it and how effective is it, if it is operational?

I just forked over $40 to get the crazy mount on ebay. They want $75 at what a country where I got the scope. Yes it works but never shot it with it on but I plan to zero is soon. I pretty excited to test it out!

Oh would work pretty good on a clear night! Added some more pics, as you can see its very awkward way to mount a scope. The adjustments are on the mount too!

The mount looks delicate, at least from that angle, but I suspect that should be expected considering the evolution of NV devices. That thing was NV infancy.  The tube looks good though, if that is your tube. Don't see any dark spots.

Show off. I bet the vintage NVG weigh more than the rifle. Thanks for sharing.

Yah Its in good working order, Isreali Army returned it to us in good shape! Thing is built like a tank 7.5 LBS for just the scope alone! Not a lot of plastic. Housing seems to be made from a Casting. I was told that these things were to be destroyed no matter what if a unit was about to be overrun by the enemy in VN. They were very advanced for their time.

Here is a article on it in Popular Mechanics JAN 1969 that you can read and download in PDF format.

Nice!   I remember using them and the old NVGs back in the 70s and early 80s.   On a moonlit night they worked pretty well.

That scope makes the AR look tiny! I believe the M21 used a starlight scope as well, but I'm no expert on the M14.

Yah I went ahead and pulled off the Hebrew data plate and on and off label. This is not meant to look like a IDF build. Now If I can  find a DOD data plate ill epoxy that sucker on. That was a lot of work to get off and cleaned up. Housing is made of cast aluminum. Aluminum black touched up the scratches I made great. 40 year old glue is nasty stuff. Notice the Israeli Military uses fishing line as cap retainers.

I am loving that Starlight !

Thanks for the pics.  It is neat to see it in magazine articles, but even better to see the real thing being used and preserved.

Edit to add: I also love the pics of Jayne.  Wow.  I would like to see her walk into a room with Kate Upton when / while they are both in their prime.
