I was looking through my collection of 20 round Colt .223 magazine and noticed that two of them have larger .223 numbering (bottom two on the left). I was wondering what the difference was?

obviously, the numbers are larger.

I don't know 54, different stamping dies. In the early 60's I'm not sure how a stamping die might have been machined, but evidently the method resulted in different results. Look at the "O" in COLT on the different plates........they vary quite a bit too. I see three different "O"s on the bottom left 2 and very
bottom right floorplates.

the left middle one w/ the dull aluminum finish is earlier.  the ones w/ the circle or circle 1 on the bottom of the body are early too.

Thanks guys, I was starting to think I was seeing things. I'm thinking about refinishing the bodies with perma-slik. Are the plates anodized? If so, what is the correct color?

the was a popular thing to do during the 94-04 ban, usgi mags were $15+ and usually in very used condition.  permasilk, sandstrom and birdsong were popular finishes.  guys today don't know how good they have it with the $7 new aluminum mags.

most of the floorplates of the era were just anodized black.  a flat dull black.
