Hey guys, awhile back someone posted a link to ltwt carbine barrels with .750 FSB. Does anyone remember who had them? I think Armalite makes some. Yes, I know the earlier barrels were .625, but I like the profile and have a use for a couple good, cheap barrels in the next couple months. Thanks for the help.

not sure if this is what you want
http://www.del-ton.com/DTI_Del_Ton_Inc_AR_15_16_Light_Weight_Pre_Ban_p/bl1051.htm

Heres a .625 in stock
http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/carbine-barrels-prod23131.aspx?avs|Cartridge_1=AKK_5xzzx56 mm NATO

Midway has a few, here a Model 1 for $145. They have the chromelined Doublestar .625 on clearance for $230

That Model 1 barrel is pretty nice.  I had one but sold the whole rifle it was on.

Pretty sure Lionel posted the link from Midway USA for 16" LW barrel with.750 FSB and they were $150ish.  Don't know who made them and didn't buy any personally.  I've used and own more than a few of the J&T's both chrome and non chrome.  All the J&T LW's I've bought have been .625 at FSB and the performance was and is still surprising to most.  Been kinda wanting to try a Delton but can't justify it having a few LW carbines that basically live in a safe.

Thanks for correction.  Wasn't sure if they were the same but the E R Shaw mfg and price makes sense.  Probably pretty decent and price is sure right.

yeah, buying a FSB and getting it mounted will cost you half of what they are asking for that barrel.

Chambered for Rem .223 and not 5.56 though.

Not a retro but I just put together this lightweight carbine.

The barrel is a Daniel Defense LW 16 incher.  Primary Arms had them on sale a couple of weeks ago.

It is 5.56, 1/7 twist, chrome, .625 FSB (F marked) and CHF.

I mounted it to a 604 receiver.

It is around 5 lbs including the TA 44S scope.

I took it out to the range yesterday and it handled both my 55 grains and 62 grains nicely.

I would recommend the DD barrel.

Maybe I would if they would ever get around to catching up on inventory.

I'm a real big fan of cheap. Even if cheap aint quite right and will need a little money later to make it perfect.

Can a .223 chamber be reamed to 5.56?

I aint the brightest bulb in the candelabra so be nice if that is a really dumb question.

no such thing as a dumb Q.    As long as it's not chrome lined I don't see why it couldn't be reamed. As far as I know, the only difference between 5.56 and .223 chambers would be the throat. Throating reamers can be seperate from the chambering reamer. (some guys prefer to throat their barrels in a seperate operation/other have reamers that do the chamber and throat at the same time).  You'd have to look up the chamber dims of each, but I think a 5.56 just has a longer throat.

Not a dumb question, but yes it can.

ADCO does it for $30....    ADCO

Morg, got the model 1 barrel, they are good barrels.

Good to know but with the combined shipping for the barrel ($158.25) and then $30 plus shipping to and from ADCO I may as well go with the Double Star from Brownell's.

$192.00 plus $8.00 shipping once and done.

AND it's .625 under the FSB.

I guess it would be great if one could do the reaming their self.

Thanks for the info guys. I am just proud of myself for knowing that it being .223 was a bad thing!

I have learned much from you guys and I keep trying to learn more.

Are they 5.56 or .223   The one I had was 5.56. could it be Midway just says .223?

If it's 5.56 I would be down with it for the gray A2 upper I have!

If not I got an eyeball on a 14.5 used M4/gub'ment profile barrel for a Franklin.

I am REALLY wanting a midlength lightweight for a XM177E2 build on my other kit 603 upper though.

AND a 605!

In all the magazine articles I've read using the Model 1 LW barrel they tested mostly with 5.56 ammo.  Also Model 1 shows same barrel chambered for both  5.56 or .223.  Think I'd call and confirm but  5.56 should be fine.

Mixed spare parts carbine using J&T chrome lined LW barrel and a few Colt retro pieces.

Check Model 1's website.

Model 1

You have the option of .223 Rem OR 5.56 and as many times as the Midway page says .223 Rem AND the fact it is $40 dollars cheaper that on Model 1's site Ima gonna go out on a limb and say it is chambered in .223 Rem just like it says.

Ima hafta pass.

Has anyone cut one of these down to 14" and re-threaded for a 14" retro build?

I believe mine has .223 on the barrel, here's a pic of it on a carbine I'm slowly replacing parts on to look like a 653, old A1 PM upper (black), 90% of my ammo is .223 anyways.

This is the barrel profile I am talking about - with the step-down from .750 at the FSB. I find it hard to believe that carbine barrels are still being made in .223 - I mean, I can see a predator heavy barrel made like that, but IIRC from a (far earlier) thread, regardless of being marked .223 I think the Midway barrels may have 5.56 chambers. I would want to check this with a gauge, but I seem to remember this same argument from previously. It's definitely worth checking due to safety reasons, and reminds me of the Spanish bolt action .308 vs. 7.62x51 safety issue. It comes up at least once a year. I am thinking these chambers may be .223 Wylde, which will process 5.56 without drama, but are more accurate with .223 hunting ammo. If that is the case, then that is the barrel I want. I guess I need to do some archive research. Thanks to everyone for all the help. It's been very illuminating.

ETA: Frankly, I don't see why a manufacturer today would chamber for straight .223 unless it were a match barrel, and a ltwt carbine barrel ain't that. I am betting it's .223 Wylde - which is very nahce.

If you want a lightweight with .750 FSB you could go with the C8 profile.  It was one of the profiles looked at for the XM4.

The forward portion is skinny enough that a regular M4 profile barrel could be modified by the likes of ADCO.  Dimensions have been posted previously.  I was going to repost them but don't seem to be able to access my Photobucket at the moment.

I followed these links and I don't see any mention of "F" height FSB.  (am I blind?) Does anyone know if they are retro height or not?
