Don't now the date of manufacture, honestly haven't started researching it yet. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8610/p1070710.jpg Nice collection and your pretty lady is very patient and accommodating. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=35390 The 601 ain't bad either. Like the leather and lace too... That's a 605 (her's I think I remember) but dayum hell yea that's NICE RRiggs! I like the guns too! Not only is it gun porn but I love the pin up poster of your Blondie. I almost missed that she was carrying a M1911! |
|
Well Rriggs. Ya'll appear to be having a mighty fine time. Until I saw the Bolo Mauser I had to say the Walther was my favorite pistol and everybody loves a classic 1911. Very nice, all of them. Gotta love those daft Kansas shooting slippers the little lady has on. Still have to say Tex's wife's boots win the shoe contest. Bought my wife a shooting bag so she'd ditch the Etienne Aigner. Got the two for one Craftsman tools bags at Sears with inner an outer pockets. Ha! Ha!
Haven't done much in retro lately or much shooting. Got bored hitting the bullseye most every time. Gave it a rest so I can re-learn in the spring. Seen some big deer around a couple persimmon trees on the farm but the fruit is all gone now. Did have a bumper soy bean harvest but mostly only small deer in that field. Really looks like ya'll are enjoying the cool weather. Guess you bought the little lady a retro carbine and a pistol instead of a ring. Tex's wife even has on a coat. Guess it even gets cold in Texas. Kidding! I know it gets cold down there. Tex, Is that a rattler in one of your pics? Looks like everyone had a very nice and safe holiday! No the wife ain't posing but lace is good. Always was a bit un-nerving for me when the ladies in lace were half naked and armed to the teeth. Made me think about what I'd been doing and who with. Nothing worse than getting caught with the wife's younger sister. |
|
damn ! that's what I call fore play! leather lace and guns don't get any better than that!! and Tex she didn't shoot those cows did she? y'all have enough dear in Texas .
ya can beet a girl in western boots wranglers and a carhart.& a AR15 |

Awesome photos, just as I expected, Tex! Nice 870 as well! Is it that warm in north Texas to where you guys don't need jackets? I wish I could say it's that way here.

Resting the firearm on the magazine can do two things;
1. Induce a malfunction because of increased drag on the bolt 2. Cause group dispersion due to lateral pressure on the bolt and therefore the case head in the chamber |
|
Someone could wrap up a jacket and offer the lady something to rest that rifle on.

I believe SDM school teaches to shoot off of the magazine.I've yet to see a malfunction from shooting off of the magazine.Not that it couldn't happen.Have worked several military ranges too.I prefer shooting from the mag(when prone unsupported).It gives me a whole lot more stability.Keep in mind though that I'm not talking about "target" shooting. Edit:Here is an article from a guy I used to work with.He is an instructor with the 1st Army Small arms readiness group and is a National pistol champion.I think you can find his name on the US Army AMU website.He has also instructed at the US Army's Squad Designated Marksmanship school in Texas.We used to teach all of our soldiers to shoot from the magazine or at least give it a try. Shooting with the Magazine on the Ground June 6, 2008 John M. Buol Jr. MilitaryMarksman, Shooting 2 Comments Myth – “Touching the magazine on the ground will induce a stoppage.” Fact – Touching the magazine of a many firearms, especially AR-15/M16/M4 –series rifles, has no adverse effect on functioning and has been PROVEN to be reliable and stable for decades. FM 3-22.9, Page 7-3, Figure 7-5 “Once the basic firing skills have been mastered during initial training, the soldier should be encouraged to modify positions, to take advantage of available cover, to use anything that helps to steady the rifle, or to make any change that allows him to hit more combat targets.” Certain detachable box magazine-fed, self-loading firearms may be susceptible to stoppages if the magazine is touched. The AR-15 series, including M16/M4s, is NOT one of them. Since the introduction of Commonwealth-style International Combat shooting to the US Army in the early 1990’s, military teams have been adapting the good skills learned in National Match-style shooting to more freestyle events shot with rack-grade gear. Being a combat match, no alibis are granted. Any stoppage has to be cleared on the clock, therefore, equipment and technique must be reliable. If touching the magazine caused stoppages nobody (at least not any winners) would use it because any risk of malfunctions would cancel the stability benefit. For about two decades the winning technique has been to use the magazine as a base of support when possible. From a tactical perspective, Mag Prone puts the shooter in “Helmet Defilade”, the lowest possible shooting position where the shooter’s helmet and muzzle are the most prominent things an enemy target can see. |

I agree with what retro says...stayed in the military for 25 yrs, almost 14 of that in a SF unit that fired a tremendous amount of ammunition (200K + rds) every year on all types of firing scenarios. If mags are giving you problems, trash them or let someone else try it in their weapon. Mags are cheap....SGLI payments nowadays are at $400,000.00 the last time I looked. Just my opinion, not an expert by no means. |

30 rd mags were issued late VN years and post war yrs became standard issue for most everybody.
