Oh HAIL no, don't stop on our account.  Please proceed.

That's an awesome 1909 Colt.  Have you lettered any of the Colts and Smiths?

I haven't lettered any of my guns. Most of the time it comes back as having been sent to some hardware store or the other. However, I can throw a few more up here if you want.......

1954 Combat Masterpiece

1959 Model 29

1964 Python

1968 Trooper

1967 Combat Magnum

1913 DWM Luger

That's about all of my pre 1970 stuff. I have more Smiths and Colts but they are from the mid '70's and I feel that they are a bit to new to be retro.

That's about the way I look at it too, Viet Nam era, '72 or earlier.  Got to love those old 4 and 5-screw 4" Smiths or at least the ones with diamond grips.

Very nice pile of old iron there, Sir, thanks for sharing them.  I missed the afordabilty window on Pythons myself.

1943 Colt Commercial to Military Transfer

This is one of 6,575 Colt commercial Government Model pistols that were transferred to satisfy the government contract in late '42, early '43.  Ordnance Dept. allowed commercial markings to remain.  All commercial serial numbers were crudely peened over and new gov't. issued serial numbers were struck, as was the "Government Model" legend restamped to read "United States Property".  The ghost of the original commercial SN on the slide shows it to be in the correct serial range for the transferred pistols.  Swartz safety components were removed from the commercial pistols, but the Swartz safety cutouts remain.

Commercial slide roll stamp right side.

Commercial slide roll stamp left side.

Swartz safety hole in receiver.

Swartz safety cutout in slide.

Peened and restamped slide SN

Peened and restamped receiver SN.

My latest retro pistol acquisition!  A pristine Czech 1954 CZ52 in 7.62x25 Tokarev or 7.63 Mauser.  I was in the shop on Saturday picking up my 1957 made Ruger MK 1 22 pistol, and and saw it., I could not make up my mind. Well, I went in to the shop today, after drooling over it all weekend (he is closed Sunday and Monday).   We talked a little, and I ended up getting it for $480 +$25 CA DROS!  He dropped it because it only had 350 rounds of ammo left for it.  Besides the ammo, it came with two mags, cleaning rod, and excellent Czech holster.

Serial number is FK05802, and it has "rid" after the serial number, and "54" (year of manufacture, IIRC) on the other side by the crossed swords proof.  Finish is 98%+ and the bore is excellent, with no pitting.

The ammo is lacquer coated with sealed primers, and  a headstamp of Cyrillic letters that almost look like "cym"  or maybe "aym" and a stamp of "53" under it.  It is packed in square boxes, 250 rounds apiece, though one has only 100 rounds.

Better pics of the CZ52.  After some research with the guys on the CZ forum and retro military pistol types, I found out it was an "unissued" piece that never went through a arsenal rebuild!  All matching, and no rebuild marks.  Tuesday morning I am shooting it.

That is a really nice collection of retro pistols, like the way it spans that era. Some (all) of those there that I would really like to have. I better stop reading this thread. I usually don't think of myself as a pistol guy, but when I look at a nice group like that I know its not really true. I just don't own many. That can always change.

My wee 9mm collection:
Canadian marked Inglis High Power, don't know the date, been thru FTR.
1951 Colt Commander, not original grips, unfortunately.
1969 Browning High Power
1970 Smith & Wesson Model 39

The Commander shoots like any other alloy Commander I ever had or shot, minute of bathtub.  The 69 BHP is fairly accurate, given the tiny sights and my aging eyes.  But the Smith, that thing is a laser!

A "Retro" Shooter based on a SA GI Repro, with a lot of stuff changed out to better replicate a WW-II 1911-A1..including original Colt Wide Ring GI Grips.

Colt 1911 Carbonia Re-Issue, had some minor issues Colt worked out and runs like a swiss watch. Doesn't get shot much at all, of course. Museum Piece, imho.

My two retro S&W 9mms.  The Model 59 is early 1974 production, and the 669 is mid-1980s (though the frame has been replaced after 1993 with a 6906 frame.)  The 669 is my EDC (Every Day Carry) weapon on my retired LEO CCW.  First released in 1972, the S&W 59 was the original "wonder 9".  I shot my first one in the police academy in 1975.  The salinas, CA PD guys were issued them, and they were the buzz of the academy...  I bought one the next year.  In 1982, I was a PD rangemaster, I carried a 59, and shot a pre-production tool room sample of the original 469 the S&W rep brought us to evaluate.  Loved it, and bought one the next year when they were released. For 30+ of the last 40 years, I have carried a Smith 9 in some form (59, 439, 469, 669).  I use the Illinois State Police load, the Federal  +P+ 115 grain (1300 fps/ 430 ft lbs).  That load has been making bad felons into good felons for 30 years...

Question for imarangemaster-

How is the trigger pull on your Model 59? I have one and love it, but the trigger has a silly amount of take-up, even in single action. Is this typical for the Model 59? I've never handled another one to compare it with...

If you build a time machine, then you could have three for $51 and money left over for lunch.

This one was shipped to my FIL in Seminole, about 10 minutes from the Armed Forces History Museum.

Yeah THAT'S a purty one fer sure!

Here's my old girl. I probably already posted her before.

She's a little long in the tooth. 97 years old!

She was born in 1918 and missed the big dance but she got reworked at Anniston Arsenal for WWII.

They parkerized her but were kind enough to leave all of her innards correct except the barrel. Even her wood is original!

I've been pretty lucky with finding what I have for decent prices in most cases.

In the pic are:
1914 Springfield Armory
2 1918 Colts, one with a WW2 replacement barrel
1924 Kongsberg Colt
2 Remington Rands
1943 Colt
1945 Colt
Ithaca
Mixmaster Colt frame with a US&S slide

I'm still on the lookout for a Remington UMC, a real US&S in my price range and a Savage and then I'll be done.

I know where one is but it's been parked and they want $2100 for it

I never even looked at it enough to see it that's the only problem or even it's an arsenal job but figured for that price I don't care.

My Springfield doesn't have a lot of finish left on it but at least what's there is original. It does have one wrong grip panel and the wrong magazine though.

There is no "wrong". There is only "not original" or "reproduction" or "after market"!

Well the original grip was broke when the pistol was used to bash a hun's head in the trenches. They HAD to replace the grip with what they had!

At least that's how I heard it!
