Isn't that a Norwegian copy of the 1911?

Caspian makes a "classic" frame without the M1911A1 features:

Caspian Classic

Very minor details, granted, but it's retro to obsess over the small stuff, right?.

You can also get flat or arched mainspring housings with lanyard loops and wide spur hammers from Brownells.

The "Polish" M1911?  It's Norwegian.

Shows you what I know. I knew I'd seen one before. Very cool. Thanks for the tip on the Caspian frame. I might look into that.

1924 Norwegian "kongsberg Colt" built under license from Colt and the Germans even used them in limited numbers after the fall of Norway. Only about 32k made total and almost every part is serial numbered to the pistol.

After the GI Joe comment I figured I owed everyone a picture. This is my Father's 1964 S&W 357 mag. His daily carry until 1970.

Here is his 1970 Colt 1911 commander that was his daily carry until his death in 2006. It is the pistol I learned to shoot with.

Yes, at first I carried them. It seemed natural to me, because they always felt like they were my guns. Someone said in passing that it would really suck if something ever happened to them. That's went they got retired and became safe queens. I chose not to restore them, but I completely disassembled them, cleaned every detail, replaced all the springs and tested everything before putting them away for my future grand kids. I've thought of replacing both of them with modern versions for myself, but went in other directions.

Gave $350 for the hammerless on the CMP classifieds last month or so

Not pristine by any means but a great shooter grade pistol

Well played, sir.  A little luck is due every man.

Nostromo, nothing wrong with your little hammerless.  You could send it off to me anytime you want.  I like a gun with a little wear on it, as well as a really nice one.  You're more likely to enjoy shooting one with a little wear.  Nice old Match Target, by the way.

Moved to this thread.  My 1974 vintage S&W Model 59 9mm.  The original "Wonder 9"  Carried a Model 59 for more than half of my Law Enforcement career.  Sold my original about 1990 and regretted it later.  Got this one recently, and happy as a clam.  Still had the mags for it in the safe.  This one came with the rubber Uncle mikes grips, but I have since put the original factory "Derlyn" nylon grips back on it.

Very nice Imarangemaster

1965 Model 19-2  as carried as a CHP by my Step Dad.

I read in a sniper book of an account of a GI having a DS as a back up.  So this pic is probably gtg for in country weapons.

I wish I could find a vintage (1910s-1940s) 1911 of any flavor (namely Colt or Ithaca) for under $1000

Good luck with that.  Maybe a beat up mixmaster?

Ask John Rippert, some of the older revolvers can be had for much less money than that.  I think.

I got my 1918 Colt for $900 but that was several years ago. It was STILL impossible to find them in any condition for under $1000 then!

It was re-arsenaled for WWII duty and has the rebuild AA and is wearing parkerizing instead of the original blue but for ME that just added to it's story and I treasure it!

It was on GB and it took LOT'S of patience and persistence and LOT'S of lost auctions before I got it!

My cousin got a WWII M1911A1 in the parking lot of a FunShow in 95% percent original condition with holster for $700 about 5 or 6 years ago.

Pop's was asking $500 and cuz gave him $700 because that's what he had in his wallet.

The guy was VERY happy and cuz can sleep at night knowing he did the right thing!

Good luck!

I found one

I'll post much better pics Monday night when I have it in my hands (pics are from seller), but it's an all original 1945 Remington Rand. US Property and US Army marked 1911A1. Came with an original Kraft box, original Sears holster, original mag, and a WW2 mag pouch. Definitely wasn't under $1000 but I got a pretty good deal, I think. I'm happy as a clam, but will be even happier when I get it in my hands and get it to the range.

I think there is enough room for these "off tangent" threads.  I get tired of nothing but 20" A1 clones, which is what most topics are about here.

I also built my own using a Foster frame using as many GI pats as I could find. The most difficult thing about the project was fitting the thumb safety.

Here's a Model 1908 Colt Pocket Hammerless in .380 I just traded a base model kit AR for.   I really love this little gun but I think I'm going to sell it.  I don't like safe queens.  If Colt released it again in .380 then I might buy one though.  :)

My retro (and only, at the moment) pistol.

A 1984 W. German produced P226 that was part of the police trials in Canada. It still bears the blemishes of abuse from the trials.

Currently waiting for a parts kit and SRT to arrive to breath some life into it (the de-cocker spring is especially weak).

My retro Llama .45 I got in 1982 (which were popular in the late 70s and early 80s) and one of my AR-180s with some 1970s collectables which are survivalist related. The first AR-180 I saw "in person" was in 1978 at a gun store in Ohio but ended up getting an AR-15 SP1 instead that day. I bought my first AR-180 in 1988 - it was a Sterling with sling, one 20rd magazine, and Armalite 2.75x scope. Guess how much I paid for it? $325!  I got the Panasonic blue ball AM radio around 1975 and the RCA police scanner about the same time or a year later. I miss the 70s and 80s!
