Man, I see some have beat me to it. I was going to post my Retro Punk Pistol here, but have been busy for a few months and have not been to the site.

Here is my XM177 wannabe, with no paperwork! :-)  I am running an Extreme Tactical Pistol A2 lower, with Palmetto Arms LPK, single stage trigger. LM A1 upper in black to go with black lower and unknown barrel, shortened and gas port opened to 10.5" barrel requirements. Sig Arms pistol brace. A1 pistol grip with knurled surface treatment. ARMS A2 Plus MOD mount. Tapco plastic (light weight!) rail riser to bring red dot into usable height. BSA Red/Blue/Green red dot. Sight Tower raills with Insight Technologies M3 white light. DPMS Retro Teardrop forward assist.

Still waiting for the paperwork on the real (Retro) XM177E1.

Thanks for all the great rifles and otherwise pictured!

I bought this 1974 SP1 36yrs ago new as a 20" in 78(I'm wondering now if it really was new. I was young and dumb back then). SP302xx, with a small X after that..whatever that means. Its prolly blasphemy, but I like it better as an SP1 carbine. Today I finally got around to installing the new Colt 6720 pencil barrel. A barrel that this rifle absolutely deserves imo. I'd installed a low cost Model 1 16" LW(.750 GB) 2yrs ago, when stuff was hard to get again. Yes it still needs black furniture....the A1 grip(which I have. but gosh I hate the way it feels)...and the A1 dust cover, which resides on my 603/A1 upper atm. Getting there tho.

I wish I could remember what I did with the oem green sling and Colt 3x20.

So far..

Colt SP1 recievers
Colt 6720 16" chrome lined 1/'7 pencil barrel
Colt FA BCG(bought new at a gun show in 1980ish)
Colt FCG

Well heck, everythings Colt except...the grip..current OD HGs came from Cavalry Mfging...and mil spec CAR stock/buffer set from Tonys Customs. I actually like the OD tho...
On my cheap digi fish scale, its 5lb 15oz without the sling.

I like it hipower90. Something I may end up like if I can't acquire a fake replica Moderator for a XM177 project.

Thanks. I absolutely was going to have this barrel cut to either 14.7"+A1 FH...or 12.5" and a CAR15 hider+grenade ring. But I've reconsidered, since its a Colt 16" pencil..and all the nice barrel engraving being exactly where all the cutting would take place..I left it alone. I have a DD .625 pencil (stripped) I might use with the CAR15 setup, using the A1 upper(also bought new at a gunshow in the early 80s).

Yes HP, I agree, DON'T cut that original barrel! While the shorties look super sexy, so does yours and you get better ballistics and probably better accuracy too!

Makes me think of the Israeli guns, although I have seen them with all sorts of barrel length. Don't know what they purchased, but probably anything and everything they could. From 12.5 inch up to 16"

Something of note..Today I finally got a chance to sight-in the new barrel assembly(after the previous Model 1 1/9 16"). I would think at least vertically(front sight) it might need something..Nope. Very first 12 shots at 50yrds. My 56yr old eyes aren't what they used to be, but I called it good and stopped right there, with zero adjustments(the smaller yeller marks above the bull-eyes are from previous shots that weren't quite covered up all the way). Ammo was some 30yr old Squires Bingham 5.56 fmj.

And thanks guys. I consider anything from this awesome forum high praise indeed. I couldn't be happier with it.

Nice shooting hipower90. I concur on the mid 50's sighting alibi. I use it all the time with the younger guys at the range that are using optics. Amazing no dope adjustments once barrels were swapped. Again, great looking carbine.

Here are my 2 shorties; The Xm177 is on a 1976 SP1 upper/lower (barrel work retro arms) and the carbine is on a 1975 SP1 upper/lower. The carbine will be going back to a rifle with a 1:12 FNMI MP CHROME BORE barrel. All other parts will be going on a DK upper and a Johm Brace lower for a Canadian C8 build.

Got my barrel and FSB back from ADCO yesterday.  I need a NoDak partial fence lower bad.  I also need a correct port door.

Mod is a Tony's
Barrel and FSB done by ADCO
Upper is a LM
Mags are NHTMC 20s
TM is a reprint from eBay
Seatbelt sling should be here shortly

mech4matsnova, I like your carbine, but instead of the Seatbelt Sling, how about using a General Purpose Sling and a little 550 Cord?

And I do agree with you on the NoDakSpud Partial Fence Lower !  It will make that build look phenomenal !

I don't know Chief, I like this seatbelt sling a lot.  Maybe Ill do a field expedient with it.  Also, I found a old Olympic 3 position tube and Original Fiberlite in my bin and put them on this morning.  Some folks have had some questions about the Tony's Mod so I took some up close pics of that too.

Tony's Repro Mod:

The Tonys will work with a reg ol 11.5" barrel. The FH is slightly longer.. And the grenade ring isn't countersunk like the real deal where the barrel can otherwise fit into it, creating a small overlap So its adds to the total length a bit more as well. =16.25".

ETA: here it is next to a Bushmaster 4.5" and grenade ring combo. Note the grenade ring isn't hollowed out.

Heres how it adds to the total length. Since it doesn't overlap the barrel any. shown how it would be on the barrel.

That's my only SBR lower at the moment and it's a Colt M4 so it's my Mk18 Mod1. Just put the XM upper on there for the pic. I need to get my NDS XM16 lower SBR'd.

Was going through a big box of old photos and stumbled upon this:

This picture is nearly 35yrs old, my first attempt at a "custom" AR. Built by the company "Old Sarge" w/a Palmetto Armory lower, it incorporated a lot of M16 parts (common at the time before M16 parts were declared to be a no-no) and I added the then-new Single Point tritium/fiber optic sight (same as used in the raid on Son Tay prison). I was stylin' back then!
Unfortunately, it was stolen when the apt I was sharing w/my sister at the time was burglarized. However, in light of its current illegality, maybe that's for the best.

Wow, nice re-profiling work. I would love to see someone's process of doing this. I did one by hand with a dremel and it's ok from a distance. Do you use a milling machine? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks guys, and I do use flat gray Norrells.
Those pics show up lighter than the finish actually is, due to the direct sunlight. One of these days I'll learn how to use this camera correctly.
For the work, I use a Dremel, couple of small files, and lots of sandpaper.
A mill would make it easier, but it definitely can be done without one. Just takes longer.
I usually have a supply of JB Weld at the ready in case of a screw-up, but so far haven't needed it.
There are several different shades of gray on the various parts, because if everything was the same color, it would look really odd.
I have nothing at all against NDS components, or the guys that use 'em, it's just that I've always been a DIY'er whenever possible, and I enjoy it.
There are several tutorials on doing these types of mods scattered in the achieves, if you can find 'em.

My GAU-5/A/A mutt...except for the upper/lower gap, its a great shooter. Much thanks to Braceman who engraved my 80%'er and machined out my moderator. Milling out the FCG pocket was done on my bridgeport milling machine
