I was only joking. It is beautiful. Mine is just as weathered, but not as nicely done.

A 933 with Acetate stock and A1 grip does not a 'retro' make... Cool stick, but not even close. Putting wheels from a 1963 Corvette on a 2015 vette doesn't make it old school...

Meh.

A good number of the guns in this "shorty" thread don't even have the correct barrel length.

How bow dah?

Not sure if this belongs here, but it's my kind of take on an M733. SB PDW until I get a stamp.

i think everyone needs one of those in their lives

it's my grail ar , colt m733 commando.  or better known as the gun used by Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer in the bank robbery scene in HEAT.

basically they're a1e1 , c7 ,  uppers with 11.5" barrels with a non f marked front sight base.  i built mine as a heat clone so it's setup like the one's used in the movie.  if you want a parts breakdown just let me know. the commando is lightweight and an all around great handling carbine , and a nice shooter to boot.

while technically not retro a few more pics for the pic thread

649 Clone almost done (featuring Retro SS mag)

Stock(aluminum) and Moderator are Tonys(p/w by ADCO), lower is a Brownells A1 Blem (selector markings on right side), the rest is Colt, including the Chromed No-serrations SP1 carrier and large hole SP1 upper.  Im planning to coat the receivers to match the port door and get a NoDak 2pos tube to replace the Tonys 6pos, then it's done.

Here are pictures of a "XM177E1-M16A1-Hybrid-Carbine" I did.
I was inspired by a picture I found years ago on the internet, propably showing a South Vietnamese Scout. (I have also seen a picture of a US Army Captain holding this kind of Carbine, but I can not find it anymore. Another one shows the carbine with some 40 mm grenades. I can't tell if it is authentic. Obviously this was done from time to time in the field, propably to fix problems of the short 10 inch barrel in combination with the shorter buffer on full auto).
I did this by using the upper of my XM177E1 project I have posted a few pages before and a standard M16A1 lower. Everything is Colt, despite the moderator, handguards, hammer, round handguard cap and auto sear (as I couldn't get these parts as Colt parts for an affordable price).

Still no need to be jealous in any way, it is just a deactivated one ...

Although this one can not fire, I can understand why so many like the idea of a full stock carbine. With its short barrel it is well balanced and very easy to handle.

Merry Christams and a Happy New Year to you all!

Here is a real retro shorty collection from a USAF Security Detachment in Meridian, MS. These rifles were photographed in the 2006-2008 time frame, and were slated to be sent in for rebuilding to M4 specifications. One of them already had an M4 barrel and handguards.

What type of barrel is it?

[Last Edit: Snake-in-the-Grass] [#47]
It is/was a Rock Island Armory (1980s) XM15A1 “Shorty” barrel with no markings. I assume a cheap barrel but it has taken a lot of rounds through it on legal RR receiver.

@doubleclaw

Those look more like something that came from IDF rather than USAF inventory.

Thanks for the detailed pics.
