I've had a Spikes lower hanging out for a while with no purpose so decided that I'd build a pistol. lol.... Why not I say? Home defense/truck kind of build in 300 Blackout. Pretty straight forward with a few niceties. All the pieces are ordered.

Build sheet...

Upper:

Bear Creek Arsenal side charging upper and BCG: $139.00
Bear Creek Arsenal 300 Blackout 7.5" 1:7 twist stainless barrel: $91.99
Midwest Industries lightweight 10" hand guard: $159.95
Midwest Industries Flash can: $29.95
LBE pistol length gas tube: $15.00
YHM low pro gas block: $19.00

Lower:

Spikes stripped lower: $95.00
CMC single stage 3.5lb. trigger: $199.00
KNS anti rotation pins: $20.00
Seekins ambi safety: $34.19
Seekins billet trigger guard: $28.99
Battle Arms Development enhanced take down pins: $28.45
Odin Works extended mag release button: $20.90
Brownell's high standard mag release: $10.99
Gissele maritime bolt catch: $27.99
Tactical Dynamics skeletonized billet grip: $70.00 (Maybe, seems I can never make up my mind on grips)

KAK Shockwave pistol stock, buffer tube, spring and buffer: $90.00

Optic:

Vortex SPAC II: $179.00

Not much to show yet but...

Just finished the purple reign and did you start another build? Great, it's always true that ar addiction is an illness without a cure
You have a nice build list as always. I'm completing a build very close to yours and I share a lot of components too. I'm looking forward to share with the forum the result

I couldn't help myself. I hated for that poor, innocent lower to be left all alone in a box in the shop. Believe it or not, I'm contemplating leaving this one black.

Will do....but just contemplating leaving it black. lol... It could get wild again. I'm concerned that my mix and match lower, upper and rail won't match each other as is. Guess we will see in the next week or so.

Some days the whole attention to detail thing is a curse. lol...we will soon see. The BCA and MI parts are set to be delivered on Monday. Can't imagine I'm going to live with it if they don't match and I doubt they will. Also can't imagine that I'd refinish them in black but you never know.

You could consider a color like tungsten grey or something like that instead of the classic black for the chassis and leave some components black.
There aren't many ar painted like that but I think it's a beautiful option. Obviously it's only my opinion maybe you already decided for another color if the three black parts don't match.

Was just looking at tungsten and bronze Duracoat colors earlier today. This build needs to be a bit more understated than the last one. Lol.

I told myself that I wasn't going to put these parts together because I really wanted to do a more subdued color scheme but dang, this is pretty sexy. I bought the lower and did the color fill when I built my first AR and then bought a different lower for that one. The grip I decided not to use on the Purple Reign build so both were just hanging around. Sheesh. Thinking now a black than purple 2 tone might be the deal.....

Lots of pistol parts landed today....

Pre-assembly to make sure that everything was going to jive. Turns out that some things don't. The Gissele maritime bolt catch won't clear the BCA upper and the Odin Works mag release won't clear the KNS pins. Couple of other little deals. This is why you put the thing together before you really put it together. lol...

Took a bit of modification to make to Midwest handguard like the BCA upper. MI has an extended pic rail that mates to their uppers. That is a no go for the BCA billet upper so I milled that off on my edge sander. Little touch up from my trusty black paint pen and it looks good and fits nicely.

The anti-rotation torque plate also has tabs on it that won't clear the upper either so I cut them off, smoothed out the edges. Little touch up with the paint pen and it's good to go.

Took a couple pics when it was all together just for kicks.

Nice build! However it seems to me there's something missing, you need some more purple parts. I mean if you are convinced about the black and purple project.

I realize that y'all think I'm nuts so guessing this really won't make much difference in that but there was something that I just had to do. Typically the shape of the hand guards and the shape of the uppers aren't really very close.  Even on something like my F1 they don't even begin match up. However, the BCA upper and the MI guard were a pretty close match. Here's how they fit out of the box...

I couldn't not blend those lines together since they were that close already and these parts are getting painted one way or the other. Guess it's that show car mentality that I can't seem to shake. My eye just hates that those lines are that close but don't quite match.

Little 50 grit roloc disc work got me in the ball park...

Finished up blocking up to 320 and a bit of primer. Another round of blocking and priming should have it pretty close.

Couple of mods on the Shockwave blade and then everything off to paint booth later this week.

Thanks. I just can't help myself.

Continuing on that theme, I wanted to mate a CAA cheek rest to the Shockwave blade to make it a bit more user friendly. Took a good little bit of cutting, sanding and such but I think it should be a good little mod.

Got everything ready for paint so hoping I can wedge my stuff through the paint department tomorrow.

Mail call today was something that I just had to have for this pistol build. The KX 50 round drum. Had to try it for $73.79 @ Sportsman's Guide with free shipping. This is a S. Korean product made for the S. Korean military. Seems super nice. Comes with a tube of graphite lube and all in it's own carrying case.

Ya know ALG makes purple handguards right?  Not my cup of tea but just throwing it out there.

I've used their hand guards on several builds and like them a lot for the money; I've never needed a ton of rail space or the weight that comes with some of the super tactical guards out there.

Yes, I'm aware of the available stuff. I have a lot of things this specific color. Dragster, golf cart, assorted guns and such. I'm in the body shop business so I pretty much customize everything I touch. This color (House of Kolor Passion Purple Pearl) had become somewhat of a trademark for me.

300 BO pistol project is complete. Deemed it "Purple Haze." Took it to the range and ran 60 thru it to verify function. Cycled perfectly with regular mags but it won't cycle the drum. Will mess with that later.
Right now just super happy with how it turned out. Nice kick and it's LOUD!! Stupid fun to shoot.

I thought modifying a pistol brace was still a no-no?

Is there another hand guard that doesn't need to be modified for the Bear Creek upper?

Thanks

I believe this mod to be acceptable. I copied it from others that did it before the latest shouldering is ok letter.

Any guard that doesn't have the pic rail extended like the MI or anti-rotation tabs would be fine. The MI would have worked as it was but there would have been a small space between it and the upper except for at the pic rail.
