I couldn't help myself. I hated for that poor, innocent lower to be left all alone in a box in the shop. Believe it or not, I'm contemplating leaving this one black.

Will do....but just contemplating leaving it black. lol... It could get wild again. I'm concerned that my mix and match lower, upper and rail won't match each other as is. Guess we will see in the next week or so. View Quote |

Some days the whole attention to detail thing is a curse. lol...we will soon see. The BCA and MI parts are set to be delivered on Monday. Can't imagine I'm going to live with it if they don't match and I doubt they will. Also can't imagine that I'd refinish them in black but you never know. View Quote There aren't many ar painted like that but I think it's a beautiful option. Obviously it's only my opinion maybe you already decided for another color if the three black parts don't match. |

I told myself that I wasn't going to put these parts together because I really wanted to do a more subdued color scheme but dang, this is pretty sexy. I bought the lower and did the color fill when I built my first AR and then bought a different lower for that one. The grip I decided not to use on the Purple Reign build so both were just hanging around. Sheesh. Thinking now a black than purple 2 tone might be the deal..... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4188/34425110680_00469eba42_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4270/33968272984_598521ed41_b.jpg View Quote |

Turns out that some things don't. The Gissele maritime bolt catch won't clear the BCA upper and the Odin Works mag release won't clear the KNS pins. Couple of other little deals. This is why you put the thing together before you really put it together. lol... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4167/34025225953_2a1f0934fa_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4181/34835005405_91295b43f8_b.jpg Took a bit of modification to make to Midwest handguard like the BCA upper. MI has an extended pic rail that mates to their uppers. That is a no go for the BCA billet upper so I milled that off on my edge sander. Little touch up from my trusty black paint pen and it looks good and fits nicely. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4198/34795291166_7a09f64d07_b.jpg The anti-rotation torque plate also has tabs on it that won't clear the upper either so I cut them off, smoothed out the edges. I realize that y'all think I'm nuts so guessing this really won't make much difference in that but there was something that I just had to do. Typically the shape of the hand guards and the shape of the uppers aren't really very close. Even on something like my F1 they don't even begin match up. However, the BCA upper and the MI guard were a pretty close match. Here's how they fit out of the box... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4203/34852127125_6e9e510da8_b.jpg I couldn't not blend those lines together since they were that close already and these parts are getting painted one way or the other. Guess it's that show car mentality that I can't seem to shake. My eye just hates that those lines are that close but don't quite match. Little 50 grit roloc disc work got me in the ball park... https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4219/34042052873_0534a1353b_b.jpg Finished up blocking up to 320 and a bit of primer. Another round of blocking and priming should have it pretty close. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4224/34720229541_1477f68a9f_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4225/34812911646_b2ac7b9eb5_b.jpg Couple of mods on the Shockwave blade and then everything off to paint booth later this week. View Quote Continuing on that theme, I wanted to mate a CAA cheek rest to the Shockwave blade to make it a bit more user friendly. Took a good little bit of cutting, sanding and such but I think it should be a good little mod. Got everything ready for paint so hoping I can wedge my stuff through the paint department tomorrow. Mail call today was something that I just had to have for this pistol build. The KX 50 round drum. Had to try it for $73.79 @ Sportsman's Guide with free shipping. This is a S. Korean product made for the S. Korean military. Seems super nice. Comes with a tube of graphite lube and all in it's own carrying case.

Ya know ALG makes purple handguards right? Not my cup of tea but just throwing it out there.
I've used their hand guards on several builds and like them a lot for the money; I've never needed a ton of rail space or the weight that comes with some of the super tactical guards out there. |

I thought modifying a pistol brace was still a no-no?
Is there another hand guard that doesn't need to be modified for the Bear Creek upper? Thanks |

The MI would have worked as it was but there would have been a small space between it and the upper except for at the pic rail. |

300 BO pistol project is complete. Deemed it "Purple Haze." Took it to the range and ran 60 thru it to verify function. Cycled perfectly with regular mags but it won't cycle the drum.
