That doesn't look bad to me...
Did you have to drill and tap the blade to accept the new screw or was the thread pitch and diameter the same? |
|
I have just been setting and forgetting. Cudos to you for thinking.
I actually may not mind your first option if length was minimum necessary and sprayed fde. The knob just looks far too obtrusive for me. |

it looks great.. but if smaller size was an issue.. they make a stainless bolt with a knurled head about thesize of a carriage bolt head.. but it looks great as is

Just makes it easier to adjust the different wrist-forearm positions for me and the wife, and to transport it. Maybe I'll write a letter to the ATF... |

I've been keeping a short Allen wench stored in my grip but I like this idea.
Your 45 degree angle on the tip looks good. What's the threading on that screw? |

I did the same Mod on my Shockwave Blade, I went to Lowe's, The thumb bolt is a 5/16 X 18, I shortened the Bolt and Cold Blued it. I also added a Magpul QD sling Mount. http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp296/tsk5408/PICT0002_zpsm9ncnnkp.jpg View Quote Thank you. Looks good. |

I used the Magpul #1 QD Mount, It came with a short Bolt and Nut, I added a Washer on the back side, Solid as a rock.

If one had a mill, they could drill out a channel to keep the blade alligned as you pull it back and forth.

Would work pretty well and the latch would just be working as a washer. |

Here's some pics of it broken down. I didn't really spend much time trying to make it look perfect, so it is very crude in form right now. The extra spacer under the latch is just that, a spacer, and also I added it to give it more of the profile of the real N stock. Also cut a hole opposite the set screw in the top of the blade to match that of an N stock. As for the screw, well it was all I had. The head is about the same size as the actual latch nut on a real stock. It wasn't fully threaded so I dremilled off the threads near the head so it could thread in and seat fully. Ground the tip to a cone and went to town. |

Does modifying it void or change the atf designation? This might be a slippery slope...
|
|
|
If I understand the murky nonsensical riddle of the ATF in regards to the Blade, as it was never designed as a buttstock and there is no modification to the angle to promote shouldering it should be fine. On the other hand, to take a previously made buttstock and modify it to the same angle as the Blade that would not be okay. I dream f the day the NFA and the ATF are nothing but a blurry memory.

I cut an allen wrench so that the "lever" part was about 1.25" long and epoxied it in the hex screw.
When tight it lines up pointing towards the rear and aligned with the blade. Works great! Dave N |

It's very simple and took about 5 minutes.
The trick is to tighten the hex screw first, timing the allen wrench to the back and lined up with the blade. When it's in the correct position, then apply a couple drops of super glue in the hole for the wrench. When it dries, unscrew it and apply epoxy. I used one of the "Ultra violet light glue pens" for a bonding agent. Solid and works great. If you don't get it right, hit it with a propane torch to melt the bond and start over. Dave N |

You've chopped off the part that is supposed to be used for forearm stabilazation. The LxW of the fin seem like critical dimensions given the intended usage. Notice the fin design didn't change much between the BATF sample and the production version? Supposing 2 samples were submitted to BATF, the original and one like yours, they could very easily call bullshit on this one one and not the other. Either way, between the change in mounting hardware and the change in physical dimensions, good luck arguing that you have not performed a redesign of this product. |

ETA: Ended up getting this one for $19 shipped NDA (supposedly a free upgrade from ground.)
Roughly how long does the screw need to be from the base of the knob to fully tighten down into the dimple on a KAK receiver extension? Preferably with as little space between the base of the knob and the stock as possible? I'm thinking of something like this: |
|
I used a 5/6X18 threaded Thumb screw on mine, I measured it at 1and 3/16" from the tip of the cone to the base of the thumb screw. should be close.
You can check out the pictures I posted on page 1 of this thread. |

Anyone ever milled a channel in their buffer tube? It would keep rotation to a minimum. Don't know if the tube is thick enough for a small channel.
