This is just going to be a budget Mega Pistol build, so nothing too fancy. So far it started life as: Then I got the upper: Caught the Geissele SD3G on sale and figured it be perfect for a pistol build: Then I picked up a ALG Defense LPK: I screwed my bolt catch roll pin up and had to locate my other LPK kit to get that installed, so here is the next small bit of progress. Mag release, safety, trigger guard, front take down pin and hogue grip installed. Found my other LPK and installed bolt catch and Mega charging handle Now to order some more parts... I'm thinking about this really short buffer and bolt over the Sig Brace setup: AR-15 2nd Generation Pistol Buffer Recoil Kit. What do you guys think? Reliable? Goes cycles properly? No FTF and FTE? Also, looking for a 7 to 7.5 inch barrel with a free float keymod rail. What's out there? Links? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well, to start, I love Mega Arms, so good job for picking their receivers. The finish on their lowers is phenomenal.
I would go with a short SLR rail on a 7.5 inch barrel. |

Looking good so far! The SD3G is a good choice for a pistol build, I love mine.

Thanks, guys.
Any idea where to get a good 7 inch to 7.5 inch chrome lined barrel with good twist rate for 5.56x45 62gr M855? |

if your on a budget mas defense is hard to beat for a good cheap barrel. i have a couple of them and they are gtg

So, for an AR15 build newb, which mil-spec auto BCG's are good?
I see them cheap as $79 and up to over $300, but just can't figure out if it's worth spending more. Ordered more parts yesterday. Forward assist assy: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-AR15-Forward-Assist-Assembly-p/bcm%20forward%20assist%20assembly.htm Ejection Port Cover Assembly: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/AR15-Ejection-Port-Cover-Assembly-p/ejection%20port%20cover%20assembly.htm Also got a Sig Sauer SB15 Gen 2 pistol stabilizing brace kit: http://store.sigsauer.com/1-0000.html |

So help me choose a barrel.
I'd like a good one that can hold up to rapid fire (running a SD3G trigger) and the heat it causes. I really want it in the 7.5 range, but I'm willing to go up to 10.5. Also will need the correct gas tube and gas block to go with it. Suggestions? |

Green Mountain. I used one on my girlfriends pistol. Great bbl for the $$$. Comes with gas tube also.

I installed a Sig brace, but I don't care for how far back it pushes the brace. I might be looking to change the SB15 out for this: http://www.gunsmokeenterprises.net/product.sc?productId=5&categoryId=2
Progress so far and tossed the AK Pistol in for length comparison. I'll ask again in case anyone else missed my question (trying to get as much feedback as possible), does anyone make a Cold Hammer Forged 7.5 inch AR15 5.56x45 pistol barrel? Who makes the best 7.5 inch pistol barrel out there if there are no CHF barrels available? Thanks! |

So tell me folks, is it possible to go 6.8 SPC with this pistol build?
What mags will work? Where can I find the barrel and bolt? Will an adjustable gas block work with the standard buffer spring? This sparked my interest: |

Spikes has a nice 8.1" cold hammer forged, if you can deal with the extra 0.6".
For some reason I can't hot link from tablet right now. http://www.spikestactical.com/pistol-556-81-chf-barrel-w7-sar3-p-1242.html |

Not a bad list, but I'd ditch tha AA piston, and add a good BCG .

So far, so good. Good to see someone building with other than the cheapest parts they can find.
One thing I must say though, you have WAY too much grease on the FCG. Just a dab with a toothpick on the trigger/hammer sear and disconnector contact surfaces is all you want. Pins and springs get just a drop of CLP. |

This is my first ever AR15 build, so it is a learning process and I'm sure there will be some trail and error. Mostly just my personal bias against the short stroke gas systems in general. (I'm a big fan of PWS's long stroke system.) If you plan on shooting tons of dirty Russian steel-case ammo, then it could be worth it for cleaning's sake, otherwise it just complicates an otherwise perfectly simple system. Not trying to start a DI/piston argument in your thread, just bringing up things to think about. If you want to go with the adj. gas block, you might also want to go with a lightweight carrier, they're usually used in conjunction to tweak the action just the way you want it. You're picking some good quality parts, I'd just be careful trying to get too experimental on your first build. If you're the patient type, who doesn't get frustrated easily, and likes to tinker, then go for it. Otherwise I'd stick to a straight DI/non-adjustable system that will likely be more reliable. There's always room to tinker on build #2. (&3, &4, &5, etc.) |

Well, after a test fit, I have run in to multiple issues. 1. The rod is too long and will require at least a 10 inch barrel to have enough room for the gas block to sit and for the flash hider. 2. The gas block won't clear the Daniel Defense Lite II 7.0 rail in the inside even if the rod was short enough to tuck the gas block under the rail. I'm going to contact them to make sure they sent the right rod length wise for a pistol. If they did send the wrong rod and they send a shorter one, I'll still have to buy a rail with larger inner diameter to clear the gas block. If they don't make a shorter rod, I'll be forced to toss my 7.5 inch barrel for a 10 inch barrel, but that would really put this "pistol" at an undesirable length for me. The only other alternative I have to keep it at 7.5 inches is to buy a whole new gas impingement BCG with gas tube and gas block snd just save the Adams Arms Piston kit for another build. This is what I get for going in uncharted waters on my first pistol build. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The receipt says "Pistol (PDW) and even when I check my order record on their site it says "Pistol (PDW)" but the box has "Mid Piston System". Oddly the PN# FGAA-03073 looks correct according to my receipt, but when I look at the PN# of the Pistol Length (PDW) kit on their site, the PN# is FGAA-03048.

Well, waiting on parts to come is like waiting on Christmas in July. lol
Wednesday the Barrel and Flaming Pig will arrive. Adams Arms sent out a pistol length gas piston rod for me, but I don't have a tracking number, so no idea wen it will get here. Got to order another rail, so not sure which to get at this point. Whatever it is, it needs to clear the AA gas block. Lastly, I need a bolt, firing pin, etc., to finish up the BCG. Thinking I'll go with this: http://www.adamsarms.net/vdi-carrier-parts |

DD Lite II rail would not clear the A XLP, so...
I finally found a rail that clears the XLP and uses the mil-spec barrel nut. https://troyind.com/products/mrf-7-blk Not as sexy as the high dollar Daniel Defense Lite II, but I'm tired of buying/being sold rails that don't work and searching endlessly, so I'm going with this. This rail pictured is off my Colt LE 6920 that has probably 1,000 rounds or more down the barrel, so it's nasty and a little beat on. But for test fit purposes, here it is. KX5 is not tightened up yet either... Glad I took it of to test fit on this gun. By looking at it, I'd never thought it would clear the XLP gas block, but it does. Barely... :) Going to order a new one for this gun and put this one back on the Colt. |

[#36]
Law Tactical folder finally came. I have one issue with it that I am going to contact them about. The Bolt Carrier Extension part fits loosely in the Adams Arms BCG. I tested it on my mil-spec Colt LE6920 and it fit better. That said, I think if I can find some o-rings that can take some heat, I can take-up the excess clearance. Sorry for the crap video, but holding the camera one handed/between my knees to record wasn't easy. Lol I have the rail off right now because I'm waiting for the new one to come in. The one I tested that fit was the Troy MRF 7 off my Colt LE6920. |

[#37]
So I moved the old rail back to my Colt LE 6920...
I got the new Troy MRF-C 7 inch finally. When I went to install it last night, the rail would not fit together for some reason. I looked and the rail was sitting on the XLP gas block and needed to come down. So this tells me Troy has slightly changed its rail from my old 2012 version to this new one I got today. So I had to break out the Dremel and take a sandpaper roll and remove material in the area around the gas block. Just taking the roll and placing it between the valley where the gas tube normally runs to trim back the corners on each side gave me the clearance I needed to fit the gas block. I also noticed when trying to install the rail that my drive rod, the part that holds the spring and rests on the barrel nut, had a mark where it looked like it made contact with the rail when I was trying to install it. So I again took out the Dremel and clearanced an area from the barrel nut forward (just enough) to be sure no contact was made there. Afterward, i got it all back together and everything fit and had plenty of clearance. I just wanted to get that out there so you all would know before you got the Troy rail, that it will need a small amount of clearance to work. Mega Pistol build is DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I just redid my 10.5" Adams Arms pistol with a DD Lite II rail and an FSB cutout. Works like a charm. I did not go with the XLP system.
