I have read and looked at all sorts of ar pistols, I have been pulled into the want to build zone.
I'm looking into building a 7.62x39 pistol and can only find 7.5 and 10.5 length barrels I was wondering if they make a 9" +/- .5" in 7.62x39. I feel the 7.5 would be too short and the 10.5 a little long for a pistol. My size comparison is only online never seen a pistol ar in person. So i come to the pistol pros for help.

Can't answer the question, but I note there doesn't seem to be an AK pistol with a 8-9 inch barrel out there either. They all seem to jump from 7.5 to 10-10.5.

Ok thanks. 7.5 or 10.5 it is then.

is there a big difference in accuracy between the two?

Thanks

I want to keep it 10.5 and under to keep the overall length down.  If I had the money for the sbr I'd definitely go 11.5

Probably not significant physics-wise, just that if using iron sights the humanoid will likely be more accurate with longer sight base. Red dots and whatever, that shouldn't matter.  Difference in velocity of course, but x39 doesn't suffer as drastically in  as 5.56/.223 for impact oomph.

10.5 seems like the choice I should go with for the performance over the 7.5

I like it, have two AR pistols with 10.5 and the M92 PAP AK  with 10" or whatever exactly it is. They've all been rock solid, plenty accurate. Fireball farther from my face.

Correct me if I'm wrong I have to make the lower into a pistol first and if I get a 16" upper I can swap it when I want a rifle and then back to the pistol on the same lower just not the other way around.

Thanks for the help

Correct. Pistol first, can be rifle and back to pistol -- rifle first must stay a rifle.

So use a standard lower and get ya some AR 7.62x39 mags and keep the change in the bank. I shoot both AR & AKs but don't want to spend a fortune on a lower that will take AK mags for the AR platform.

I may, i hear the mags are finicky so I was going to get the ak mags for the ar and also use them in the sks.

I have one of these Alpha Shooting Sport 8 inch Barreled 7.62x39  uppers in bound so I cant speak to how it functions yet but the company appears to review well and has been around for a while.

I have a 20" barrel 7.62x39 setup and have no ftf problems with any of the AR 7.62 mags. You may have to tweek the feed lips of the mags up a tad to fine tune feed, I did on 1 but no ftf with steel or brass after that.

Great to hear.

The asc mags for the standard lower the ones to go with. Since its so close to the black fri sales I'm going to wait and see what they have on sale for mags and lowers (even though they're pretty cheap now). I'll  probably get a couple ar15 7.62x39 mags to hold me over till the 7.62x39 lower is back in stock.

Nhgunnut  . Let me know how it works.

Another question:   if I go 8" barrel with the kx5 3.25"(I think) fh will the diamondhead vts 10.25" handguard cover about half of the fh?  I'm trying to do the visualization and math my head after a long day at work.

That would depend on where the 10.25" length of the handguard is measured.  If it's at the rail, then the bottom would cover more, and think of the KX5 as a linear compensator rather than a flash hider, as all blast will be directed downrange...

Ahh that's what I was looking for (liner comp) I couldn't think of it haha. I'll send and email to see where it's measured at thanks for the insight.

Got the email back and it's 10.25 at the rail and 11.75 at the bottom.

Have parts on way for my first pistol build so excited...

Aero precision upper and lower
tactical ambush 7.62x39 bolt and enhanced firing pin
7.62x39 marked dust cover

Still a toss up between the 8" barrel and the 10.5" barrel

Id still go YHM 11.5" personally. If worried about concealment, get a law tactical folding mechanism

Didn't think a folder was legal.. not going to really conceal it just have it in the truck. But I'll look into it out of curiosity.

Nothing illegal about a folding mechanism on a pistol. Even more popular on an AK. I'll have one done myself this evening.

SBR requires a stock. A mechanism that could attach one is not a stock.
