I have this (28") and a 7.5" barrel with KAK super tube and BRT comp fits with the weapon at a diagonal with room to spare. It has hold down straps which makes it stay in place. The 10.5" barrel won't fit, so put the second 10.5" upper in the outside pocket. Cuts down on the number of cases needed going to the range.

Outside pocket has 3 mag pouches that I only put spare batteries in since the second upper fills that pocket.

Try one of these. I had one in
my stash of odds & ends. It's
been waiting all this time for
me to build a pistol!

Side pockets hold mags & other items.

Small, low profile, affordable, but effective.

I got a slanzenger (sp?) brand tennis racket bag. Fits my 26" oal perfectly. I got it for 20$ But unfortunatly doesn't have any outside zipper pockets for spare mags but I can stuff my pistol with .30 cal clip inserted into the bag

26" doesn't include sig brace. Bag holds like a 30" firearm

I'm in the same boat and I saw those last night. My new buffer tube should be in today and if im under 28" still, thats what im gonna get.

my only thought is that there are no hold down straps and the gun may print, soooooooo some cheap hobby store foam and a cut job looks to be in order!

Here's the case I have for my AR pistol (10.5") US PEACEKEEPER MRAT CASE

DO LIKE ^

I have the Wilson racquet bag from Wally for an M85 PAP (AK Pistol) which won't fit a 10.5" AR, pretty sure.

Yes, that's a spare barrel bag. I have two, and the Yugo M85 PAP and AMD-65 both fit in it, the AMD fits absolutely perfectly. Also, the zippered pockets fit 30rd mags (7.62x30 or the 5.56 M85 mags).

There aren't many good options. The Blackhawk racquet case would be perfect, just add a logo. I couldn't find any good-length bags.

Most of the 'covert' options are for from low key. Even the PeaceKeeper case I use might raise eye brows.

An idea: get a shitty, cheap quitar case. Rough it up a bit. Throw some shitty stickers on it. Dress like a punk or bum, if say escaping a city. Who wants a shitty $150 guitar? (many would assume)

I have this case in blue and my 10.5" with a Troy Claymore and SB15 fits nicely with little movement.  The thick padding protects the gun.  The case is short enough so people don't think it contains a gun.  There are two pockets for 30 rnd mags.  The mag pockets do not have straps so I added straps with velcro straps and shoe glue.  Now the mags stay in place.

Eh, Pelican is a good choice if you're travelling with a firearm and it will be subjected to rougher than normal handling but that protection comes with a much higher price and greater weight than any soft case.

Just the case. I bought a separate AR that fits it just fine. It's really slick. It is very discrete. My wife doesn't even know what's in the case.

I end up putting firearms in Pelican cases on the roof rack when necessary so people can fit in the cab. They are great to keep the dust and moisture out of the weapons. When I get to the destination and if in a hotel or rented home, it gets locked up to something so it doesn't walk off. A bit of a travel vault.

Not needed when just going to the range for sure. More than likely doesn't meet the original OP requirements either.

It fits very well in the case, especially since I removed the unnecessary divider/mag pockets and added a few retention straps.

i wuz doing alot of research while waiting for parts to finish my pistol; i really didn't want a gun case looking case,
so I decided breaking it down was no big deal; may go with a used pelican case later, but the case I'm using is
from a cheap car jack from china mart; think I found it at goodwill or some other thrift store.

also found a black gps case at goodwill for $10 that i converted to a sneaky pete style holster for my P3AT

I just picked up a 18" aluminum case from HF for $20 that has a removable pluck foam insert. Breaking down a 7.5" upper with F3 optics and KAK super tube lower, it just fits.
Need to find another piece of 1" thick foam to fill in the gap. I'll post up a pic once I get it completed.

Thanks. Tip to tail, my pistol AR (with Sig brace) in its current configuration (still deciding on muzzle device) is 28" long. Do you think that would fit while still zipping up easily?

If so, is there any additional play such it would fit 28.5" AR (if I go with a longer muzzle device), perhaps if angled a bit inside the case? Though angling may not make much difference given the size of the sig brace.

It will fit at 28" horizontally and you should be able to zip it up normally. At 28.5" you might need to cant the weapon slightly although it might be a relatively tight fit. You should still be able to close it since the zipper is very flexible.
At one point i had a 16" upper w/ optic inside my case along with the SBR pictured above and I could still zip it closed.

7.5" 300blk just fits in this small discrete case from HF. Picked it up for $20 with their 20% off coupon and added some more foam below the pick'n pluck foam that came with the case. The egg crate foam on the top came with the case as well. Have to break it down, but I think a SB15 might fit on the lower and still fit in this case.

The case walls have a layer of high density foam that you can see in the last pic. The weapon is well protected in this case.

The Wilson bag from WallyWorld will take a 10.5" AR pistol just fine.  For instance, one built with a with a 10.5 upper, Spike's pistol buffer tube, crutch tip and an A2 hider.  If you added a longer flash hider it probably wouldn't make it.  Not bad for fifteen bucks.

Also look at soft ukulele cases.  They come in basic black, as well as paisley and floral.  Although you might attract the wrong kind of attention with a floral ukulele bag.

A plain tool bag or crappy gym bag will work if you don't mind breaking down the pistol.  And nobody wants your stinky socks.
