Can anyone recommend a good powder to use with 140grn bullets in 6.5 creedmoor shooting through an ar10?  I have loaded for M1's and M1A's and there are known powder bullet combinations to stay away from.  I see that one of the common powders used for 6.5 is 4350.  I assume this will be OK to use in an ar10 action?  I think 4350 is one of the powders not recommended for the M1, M1A action.

you wont damage the gas system in an AR10 like you will with the garand action. you can use a lot of powders and you're not limited by bullet weight.

Reloader 17 is showing to be another good choice, and it seems to work well across the 120's to the 140-grainers.

What gas system length do you have?

Ir RLGS, RL17 is on the slow side and will hit the port hard under a 140gr.

ELGS is the way to go if you can.

Otherwise, go H4350 and don't look back.

H4350 is surely the way to go. However it's pretty hard to find. I use IMR 4451. Very temp stable and doesn't leave much copper fouling. I use 42.1gr over a Nosler 140 RDF bullet. About 2700 at the muzzle from my 22" Ballistic advantage barrel. Sub MOA all day.

I often see people talk about how difficult H4350 is to find.  A few months ago, when I was on the hunt, I signed up for every in-stock notification I could find and had an 8-lb jug on its way within a week.

What do we think about Varget or 8208 for OP's application?

8208 for 120 and lighter. Didn't work well with heavies. Decent groups with 120 and 100

Varget is one of the good powders for 95-100gr bullets, ok for 120-123gr, really slow speeds compared to other powders under a 129gr, one of the worst under a 140gr.

It's just not an ideal powder for 6.5CM since CM has a tighter neck than .308, so pressure builds too fast with the common bullets we load for in the 6.5mm.

8208XBR is another powder that is generally too fast for 6.5CM other than 95-100gr bullets.

I see no data from Hornady for it after that going up in weight for the 120-123gr tips.

I personally have just been hoarding H4350 every time I see it, as I use it a lot in .260 Remington and now that I have a 6.5mm Creedmoor to review, I might use it for that as well.

H4350 is the "go to" powder for a variety of bullet weights, but you have to do some leg work to find it. Superformance is easier to get and will net good results with 120-123 grain bullets if that's where you want to stay.

Check out hodgdens website. Goes up to 140gr pills.

But yes very slow MV indeed. I was getting around 2450fps for a grain over max load of the website. Best group was about 1.3" @ 100yds
