Looking to add another upper for one of my SBR's.

Wanting to have a 12.5" barrel that is very accurate (10-shot groups of < 1.5") and is capable of handling hard use.  Primarily considering either chrome lined or Melonite.

Currently considering:

- Faxon

- Micro MOA

- BCM

- Ballistic Advantage

Any other recommendations?

The 12.5" lightweight from Daniel defense were awesome barrels.

On the short list, most definitely.  I'll be honest, I wish you guys had a stainless, QPQ mid-weight 12.5".  That would be awesome.

What is your budget? The below barrel will probably accomplish your accuracy requirements, but it is a lot of coin for what a 12.5" rifle is generally used for.

I would venture to say that any of the cheaper options will fulfill your requirements just fine.

Budget is $350 or under.  The barrel is the heart of the carbine of course.  At the same point, I'm not going to sweat getting every last 1/4moa.

I should mention what I already have:

16" Larue Stealth - my precision upper.  Capable of a touch under MOA with 77gr Noslers.

16" Daniel Defense lwt - currently a backup upper.  Good for 1.25" with the same ammo.

14.5" BCM lwt - Primary go-to. Good for 1.8" with the above ammo.

16" BCM - Primary training and HD carbine. Never tested its accuracy.

11.5" BCM BFH - great upper, but I want a touch more velocity.  Never tested its accuracy.

10.3" Ballistic Advantage .300blk - good 2moa carbine.

So I am wanting something the is a bit handier than the 14.5", with a bit better ballistics than the 11.5"

For $310, you can get a Noveske 12.5" w/o gas block, which would probably be my choice.  Rainier has an ultramatch 12.5" in .223 Wylde for $345.

for some reason i have never equated extreme durability with match and stainless barrels. am i wrong to think this?

My secondhand opinion from spending too much time on here is that they are marginally less durable, but certainly durable enough for pretty much anything a civilian can possibly get up to.  You may not get quite the barrel life but that's more of a matter of cost (replacing the barrel sooner) than durability, IMO, since (1) barrel wear really only affects accuracy except in cases of extreme abuse and (2) all barrels wear out eventually and we're talking about thousands upon thousands of rounds to degrade quality stainless or match barrel.

Again, just the opinion I've formed from reading this site, and ymmv.

hell i barely get them broke in let alone worn out. a symptom of BRD  i do believe.

Faxon. period.
bought a 12.5" last year..hands down the most accurate barrel i've ever used. 1/8 twist absolutely loves IMI 77gr razor core

Years ago, Wes @ MSTN had a good report on a hard use, short (think it was a 12.5") stainless barrel.  It was pretty impressive.

For my use, I'm not really thinking a match barrel.  I want 5.56 chamber, not wylde.  I would like QPQ or chrome lined.  Stainless with a QPQ would be ideal. What I ideally want isn't really out there to be honest.

I'm intending this as a 400 yard and in carbine, so 2moa and better is good enough, but I want a bit better.

Right now, I am leaning towards either the Faxon or the Daniel Defense, but still considering others.

I'm really happy with my Faxon 12.5", and my 10.5" for that matter.
These groups were at 50 yards and my rest wasn't super stable.
Shooting without touching the pistol brace against my shoulder.

First group after zeroing with 10 rounds.

Put the scope on for testing purposes.

Two groups fired through my Centurion Arms barrel:

To that point, I had between 3500 and 4000 rounds through the barrel.

ETA: Ammo was a mk262 clone (about 2500 fps through this barrel) and I wa using a 1-7x optic at 100 yards.

not a 12.5 but i was close to going with this. went 10.3 instead, would recommend.

I saw that.  And I'm out of Dillo dust too.

I had planned on picking up the Faxon (really been wanting to wring one out), I think I would be a fool not to do the Larue.

I am picky when it comes to barrel profile... I don't want any extra weight hanging off the muzzle end, like with a gov't profile, especially when I'm trying to build a nice handy SBR.  With barrel profile in mind, the 12.5" is a difficult length to buy for.  It's like the redheaded stepchild of barrel lengths, and if most offer it at all, it's only in that bogus (but somehow always selling) gov't profile.  None of the usual suspects who are known for making good quality light profile barrels offer one in that length.  The only 12.5" I'm seeing that is not gov't profile or heavier is the Noveske standard chrome lined barrel with low pro gas block, so that's what I would use: http://www.noveske.com/collections/barrels/products/chf-chrome-lined-lo-pro-5-56

It's a little pricier than the others, but the handling characteristics of that barrel profile alone are worth it.  Also I can't say I've ever heard anybody bitch about the accuracy of Noveske's CHF barrels.  With good ammo it should easily meet and exceed your 1.5 MOA standard.

LaRue 12" 5.56 Stealth with SilencerCo Specwar K - Bushnell 4.5-18x40 in an LT104,

Norma 77gr Match (SMK), Groups 0.521 / 0.884 / 0.314 / 0.560 / 0.510 = avg .5578 MOA

Better than my spot on the list right now (#53).

As for dinner pics, you wouldn't want them.  Everything my wife makes is dairy and gluten free, the Dillo dust is needed to make much of it palatable.

Betcha it doesn't.

(I asked for it to be shipped Friday so I'm here when it gets here).

Hoping they allocate it though, so if goes out of stock in the next few days I don't end up losing out.
