So I got lucky and won an upper in the Stickman Facebook drawing. The receiver is from Cross Machine and Tool, and the barrel is a carbon fiber barrel from Proof Research. This is my first carbon fiber barrel.

Is there anything special to know about carbon fiber barrels? Anything special to break in, or installing muzzle devices and such? Any chemicals to avoid on them? Anything at all?

TIA

They are expensive. That's about all I know about them.

Oh and they are carbon fiber wrapped, not completely made of carbon fiber.

And they're expensive.

Supposedly they dissipate heat faster, they flex less, they're lighter weight, and as posted above, they are EXPENSIVE (about 3x the price of a standard barrel).

I have heard some solvents (gunscrub or carb cleaner) can damage the carbon fiber. I have not tried this myself though. I would try to keep crap off of it if possible.

concentrated acetone would probably damage it....does it have a clear coat finish over the CF?

I'm not sure about some of the specs. I know its an 18" and it's a 223 Wylde chamber, with a pinned gas block. I'm, guessing its the heavy barrel version. I'm not sure what twist it is. The MB is by silencerco.

Looks cool. Hey, you won it and thats great. Its price restrictive for me. Please post a range report, as I would like to know how the accuracy is especially after a mag dump.

Only hear / read great things about their barrels, more so on their hunting rifle barrels. That is an awesome win, and for a second I thought I should get back on FB; then said naaaahhh! A little bit jealous, but only because as others have said, it's pretty cost prohibitive. Maybe one day, but not this Christmas.

Awesome!!! I would shoot it like normal and shoot proof research a email asking about any special handling of care instructions.

I wanted one of those barrels forever. Back when it was ABS there some really cool rifles out there. Now that proof bought them out or whatever it just seems like more great stuff.

If I were rich I have a feeling a lot of my guns would wear their barrels.
