I want something rather odd for a project which has been kicking around in my brain for a while - 20" rifle barrel with a CARBINE length gas system 0.750" at the gas block, then something like a pencil profile forward to a rifle position gas block shoulder for an A1 FSB and pencil profile out to a threaded 1/2-28 muzzle for an A1-ish flash hider.  Basically I want to build something which looks like an A1 upper - down to triangular handguards and an A1 FSB but will really run a carbine-length Osprey piston system hidden back under the handguards.

Last summer I was emailing back and forth with the Hawkeye Custom guys and they said "No problem, give us a month" and then went dark.  Didn't want any money up front or anything, so I'm just bummed more than angry.  I'd have been Ok with "Hey, this can't actually be done" or "This is too much trouble for us to bother" or "You're an idiot and this won't work" but they just stopped responding.

Can anyone suggest a source for such a beast? (Or tell me why I'm an idiot )

TIA,
Richard

You can spec the length, gas port, etc on Compass Lake barrels.

Compass Lake or White Oak are both custom barrel smiths.

Thanks guys!  Any personal experiences with either these or others?  I'd like to avoid another runaround if at all possible....
