So I'm working on my 3rd ar (1st upper not bought complete) and i need suggestions on a cheap handguard. I won't be attaching anything to it and I don't care what it it looks like. Its going on a .50 Beowulf and I'm tapped out on funds so that's why I need cheap. Besides a brake its the last part I need to finish it. Any suggestions?

What is your budget?

dpms or model 1 tube.  they are super cheap.  Jse has them for 45 quid.
copes distributing has the anderson tubes at a similar price point.

It may be tempting but i'd suggest you avoid the import super cheap ones on ebay and amazon.

I like the cheapo from dpms but read you need a special wrench to tighten it.

no you don't.  a standard barrel nut wrench works just fine.

i'm unsure about the tubes from hougue and rra.  Yhm requires a non standard barrel nut wrench.

If you don't have a standard barrel nut wrench i'd suggest going with the alg or utg pro super slim.  they include a wrench with the tubes.  they are worth the extra coin compared to the simple tube plus purchasing a armorer's wrench.

the diamond head rail can be installed with commonly available wrenches.

out of all the free float tubes and rails i've used on builds the alg is the only one i've purchased twice.

This is the one from dpms I was looking at. I have a stanard armorers wrench. Do you have experience with this one?

I have the vented version on my 22 upper.  I used the dpms armorer's wrench.  The one concern i would have with using it on a big bore upper would be recoil.  The way the tube screws onto the barrel nut might require a few dabs of loctite.    The anderson i mentioned above might be a better choice since it comes with a lock ring.
