Thinking about weaving some paracord through my free float handguard. Not really for a functional purpose. Just for laughs and to add some color to an otherwise boring black handguard. Plus paracord is dirt cheap, and it's a mod that's easy to undo if/when I change my mind. This would be for an AR22, so no gas tube, and not a ton of heat.

Something like this:

If you've done it, please share some tips

It looks kind of cool, I hope it isnt near the gas tube during a couple of mag dumps

This paracord fetish is getting out of control.  It's getting out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

It's Rainbow Loom for boys.

ETA:  I would think that gas tube heat would make pretty short work of any nearby paracord.

this post nailed it. This comes up probably about quarterly here, and the general consensus is always that gas tube heat is going to make a mess of it. You'll have melted plastic everywhere. No bueno.

Since the OP asked... I've always looked at it, as something for someone with way too much time on their hands. Time spent isn't the factor tho. I just don't see much benefit. On the contrary. Only something extra to possibly go wrong, get in the way, etc..at the worse time possible.  Like when the rifle might truly be needed.

Should have mentioned, there is no gas tube. This would be for an AR22.

The pics aren't mine.

Had it on my JP Enterprises freefloat tube for over 15 years.

Insulates against winter cold and summer heat, 1/2 twists give positive grip, and raised portion of knots give positive "pinch" pointfor thumb/index finger for repeatable grip.

Plenty functional.

Warsport uses bungee cord. I'd use that, but I'd have to buy the bungee cord. Rather use the extra paracord I have on hand.

Basically doing this.

I'd spend the time and money shooting instead.

Cool. Good for you. Shouldn't you be viewing a training video instead of googling Barbie pics?

Never understood why people who have no interest in a thread pop in to announce that they have no interest.

Don't really feel like scraping melted paracord off my barrel when things get toasty. Scraping the melted junk from my shooting bag off was bad enough. Plus the smell of melted paracord offends my sensitive olfactory senses.

What I would use, if I had to, would be some elastic bands, Izzy style, or even some bicycle inner tubing if I needed some more grip.

Paracord can be used for a lot of things on a rifle, but being near heat shouldn't be one of them.

It's for a rimfire rifle. Not too worried about it melting, so long as the paracord is kept off the barrel.

Ah, well, I guess that's cool then.

I can't afford enough .22lr to shoot my barrels hot enough to melt cord anyway.

Exactly. If I can shoot enough .22lr to melt paracord, then I've got enough money to pay someone to clean the melted cord off the barrel, or just buy another barrel.

Anyway, back to thread topic. Has anybody done this and have any tips?

Weaving paracord through a handguard. Patterns, how deal with the ends, working around stuff attached to the rail, etc.

Since I am not required to shoot out of the back of a humvee nor am I a tier one operator I will probably not be putting any para cord through any of my handguards.  Hope it works out for you.

Too damn cold and wet outside, so I went ahead and weaved some paracord onto the handguard. Added a little color to the black handguard, and a lot easier to undo than paint if I change my mind. Will post up pics when I get a chance.

The guy who runs Every Citizen a Soldier had a badass paracord setup on his rig. And i know that guy had a functional purpose for it.

(Any dude who had his cleaning rod affixed to his rifle knows what's up)
