I found new MK1's for $250. I need a rail for a build and I'm not a fan of keymod.

Opinions?

That's a very good price on a great rail.  I've had three of them, and all have been wonderful.    I was always scared of stripping one of the threaded inserts, and have since moved to the MKIII.   Snatch it up!

Where are you finding them that cheap?

I have one, it is awesome. There are different mods/revisions, some are heavy some are light (12 oz).

I have an MK1 on my LMT 14.5" SBR. I love it, not the lightest rail out there but extremely rugged and well built.

I have the Mk1 on my BCM 14.5" Middy and have been very pleased with it so far. I only paid $150 for mine practically brand new but, I'd definitely scoop another one up at the price point you're getting it at. I also want a Mk4 since I love my Mk1 so much.

I think they're great rails. And some of the best looking too. Aside from some of the KACs.
Do it.

Well...I was torn between an m-lok rail (which is what I wanted), saving cash and getting a Rainier key mod for $119 or the mk1.

I went with the MK1.

Should I have just eaten my distaste for key mod and saved money. ..I hope I fall I  love with the MK1.

$ 251 shipped

Wise choice.... Keymod is relatively new and IMHO will not stick.

I picked up a 13" MK1 in DD from Midway when they were on clearance last month. I am very happy with mine. If your looking for rail covers, the Centurion CMRs can be made to work with little effort. Only need to ream the hole a little bigger and get larger screws, #10-32 I believe. Heres a pic.

Did you have to modify anything to get those CMR panels to attach to that mk1?

You will have to drill, or ream, the holes in the panels to accept the larger Geissele screws and would need to purchase new screws if you don't have any on hand.
I had extras laying around but I believe they use #10-32 threads and are about 1/4" -3/8" long.
The holes do not align perfectly but are close enough to make work, just be careful not to cross thread when getting the screws started. Tighten each side a little at a time and go back forth until tight.
