Long story short I left my only AR at a buddies house after a recent range trip.
I always close my stock fully for ease of transport.

Go back a month later and stock will not move forward.
Had to cut the pin that locks to the buffer tube off and found the rear buffer tube hole bent as well as the stock pin.

Long time friend denies using/abusing it.
Looking to see if anyone else has had an issue with these.
Im assuming it was slammed on the buttstock hard but have no proof.

More than likely your "friend" or someone else that was in his house dropped it on the buttstock

Why would you intentionally do that?

So when you picked up your rifle from your buddy's the stock was collapsed?  You then lengthened the stock and it was fine?  Went to shorten the stock and now had a problem?

When I left it there stock was very likely fully collapsed (habit )
When I picked it up stock was fully extended and unable to move.

I generally only shoot at a range close to his home.
I also have known this person almost 15 years.

Both buffer tube and stock were damaged.

Do what you think is the right thing, only you know what that would entail

Dang don't let it ruin your friendship if he turns out to be the reason your stock is broken. Just give him a good beating, and shake hands after. My guess is the both stock, and buffer tube is damaged from being dropped.

Pretty likely somebody played with it.  What is strange is that it broke and there are no other indicators of being dropped or abused?  I have had to mortar my rifle with CTR a couple times and it's taken a couple of drops, nothing broken and still functions.

does your buddy have kids or friends? they may dropped it and hid that fact from him

He has a 5 year old that has been taught not to touch firearms.
I have witnessed this myself.
All long guns at his home go in a safe.

Climbing into a stand and the rifle slipped off my shoulder. Hit butt stock first. Exact same damage to the pin. Fortunately or was locked in a good spot and could continue the hunt. The retailer replaced it for  free. I dint know it was damaged and stuck in place until I tried to collapse it.

This reminds me a little of the Appalachian Emergency Room bit on SNL.

It didn't break by itself. I convict on mere reasonable suspicion alone!

yup... as far as I understnad, the only way most stocks break is becasue they are dropped right on the buttstock.  It was dropped, CTR stocks are pretty solid, I dont see what else could of caused it.  Logic now only allows for a few explanations. You dropped it, or someone else did. Its that simple.

Chamber check is your friend.  I was just thinking  that someone mortar cleared the weapon.  I have seen someone fuck up a perfectly good stock doing that.  To be fair, demonstrate the technique on one of his rifles    lol

I wouldnt let a ctr stock and a buffer tube ruin a 15 year friendship. Cut your losses and dont leave anything valueable at his house again.
