Looks like a .300BLK with how close that gas block is to the receiver? Which IG are those pictures from?

Also, any idea on the can?

Can from the rest of the JSOC leaks.

Was told the can is either sig or Wilson combat. Pictures of that can had leaked awhile back ago but didn't show much.

Sig.  I'd bet my paycheck that the serial starts with LVAWSDxxxx.  Same can on their AAC MPWs, which is what that gun looks to have started out as prior to a barrel and rail swap.

B.E. Meyers Izlid. Looks similar to the Glare Mout but has a chonkier body.

Glare for comparison.

From what I've seen evidence of, they're still using Black Hills loads for both. 110gr barnes for supers like you mentioned and 201gr subs. IIRC the 201gr subs are a Lehigh ME bullet. The bullet is fairly hard to get a load of commercially but they also make a 194gr ME bullet that theoretically performs the same or at least serves the same purpose. I standardized on it for "serious" subs and then use S&B 200gr for training.

@TinyCrumb

Is this the 194gr Lehigh you're loading? Looks nasty, and expensive

Mind sharing your load data for it? I've been thinking about trying to make some subs that are more than just plinkers with my go-to 220gr SMK seconds or the 200gr Berry's plated, both of which ice pick through with maybe a bent tip or ever so slight mushroom.

That is the correct bullet, yes. Also same bullet, just 7 grains lighter, as the FBI/JSOC load that Black Hills does. I don't load my own ammo however, I only shoot factory ammo. Just haven't really had the time to dive in to that. I stocked up on Underwood's loading of it but Wilson Combat also does one as well:

https://underwoodammo.com/300-aac-blackout-7.62x35mm-194gr.-maximum-expansion-solid-monolithic-hunting-self-defense-ammo/

https://wilsoncombat.com/300-blackout-194gr-lehigh-me-20-box.html

They are expensive, but that's why I think having a less expensive plinking go-to, like the S&B 200s, works well.

The 201s do some amazing work on the intended targets.  The 194s are effectively the exact same, so I would assume they would have the same terminal effects

Are they running a 5.56mm can with 6mm ARC ammo?  Is that possible with the 416SD?

The rifle appears to be the 6arc rifle could be 16" 556 but it's def the 416SD, I know the trial rifle the Geissele had a different can that one may have been dead air. I'll see if I can get answers.

think you may be mistaken the. 416sd for a tan sd6n.

I was mistaken, the setup I'm looking at is 16" and not the new 18" 6arc setup. The one I'm looking at is another setup currently being trialed. I apologize for the mistake.

What is the correct rail for the afsoc 416 recce?

They have the mk15 and the regular SMR.

Also ddc or black?

Edit: looks like it’s probably the OG 416 SMR.

Alternate question. Has the NSW 416 recce ever been seen with a surefire can?

No, dev used(s) AAC & Ops Inc cans on their 416s. If you're referring to the chopped barrel ones, they're Ops Inc 12th models.

If it's a sig can it's custom and same with the noveske barrel since it looks direct thread and noveske barrels don't have the tapered shoulder.

It doesn't look like a normal can seen with the LVAWs. Like I have an SRD762TI-10 and it's too short and wide to be the can in question. The other SRD direct thread cans are also way too long to be the can in the pic.

Same thing if it's a recent picture and somehow that's a new SLX/H can, it would have to be a not commercially available can because all the 7.62 offerings don't seem to match up in apparent length.

We've seen these cans before, so they aren't new.

Also, just like lvaw cans, it's not on the civilian market (at least I have yet to come across it).

That would be a great book idea. The cloning encyclopedia.

anyway, I can't make out the can. For a second I thought it was the DA Sandman can but the can in question is wider, probably 1.6X-1.7X" width. That and it looks direct thread or the FH QD makes it look that way, sort of like the B&T FH and the  Rotex III can on the HK417.

give us a hint TC!

Kevin B & Ian have been working on a suppressor history book that I think is about 90% complete, and I'm guessing a lot of relevant stuff to this conversation will be in there when it comes out.

The best hint I can give you is that it would be a mistake to assume that because something says "LVAW" on it that it came from Sig. A handful of companies participated in that solicitation, Sig just happened to win a contract.

The can was never released and sold to the civilian market though, so don't get your hopes too high. The history aspect of it is really fun but just like most things JSOC, cloning is not easy.
