I have decided to get either a Colt or a Vltor carbine receiver extension for my next build.  I'm looking for the highest quality constructed tube that I can get, with the smoothest and most consistent interior surface.   I have a four position Colt tube on my 6920 that's great quality as far as I'm concerned, but I've heard so many great reviews on the Vltor ($10 cheaper too) that I'm left wondering if it might be even better quality than the Colt.  So if anyone has used both of these brands, could you comment on which one you think is the highest quality out of the two?

EDIT: After all the recommendations I did some further research and decided on the Vltor A5 system with the A5-H2 buffer.  Thank you all for your recommendations!

They are pretty equal and both very high quality.  I only purchase the vltor a5 though.

I would do the A5 system as well. You need the spring and A5 buffer as well.

VLTOR or the BCM A5 buffer system or even the BCM carbine buffer tube assembly. I would not even consider Colt.

I run the BCM A5 on a couple of mine and it sure is sweet.

I like LMT extensions better than all for a carbine tube.

I run the complete Vltor A5 system in a few of my guns (RE-A5 tube, A5-H2 buffer, Sprinco Green Spring)

Remember that these components do not mix and match with your standard carbine parts.

The standard Vltor is the best machined and finished receiver extension I have ever used out of BCM, Aero, Spikes, Damage Industries, ALG and PSA Premium. With that said, they were all quality tubes and I would not have an issue using any of them again.  The only issue I have ever had was with an older 6061 Aero tube.  The end plate dug in the channel somewhat easily.

I prefer Colt for most things but the 6 position receiver extension is superior to the 4 position in function, so id prob recommend BCM. The VLTOR A5 may be a good option if you're a taller guy tho

LMT buffer tubes are my go to.

Vltor 5 position are a close 2nd.

3rd?  A5 (either Vltor or BCM)

Last 2 Colt REs I bought had the worst exterior finish out of any I have owned. Look like wet black paint wrapped in plastic wrap.

BCM/SPIKES, IMO. Aero is gtg , also. Just stick to 7075.

I prefer Spikes tactical over VLTOR and Colt receiver extensions. Spikes uses a proper 7075T6 material, proper internal hard lube, 6 positions - all numbered on top, and goes beyond mil spec with three extra drain holes placed in the last three stock positions. Costs less too.

The new Magpul tubes seem really nice. You can buy their SR-25 tube and run the A5 system as well. If they'd ever release the new UBR, I'd run it as well.

LMT for me too.  Plus it's 6 position.

I have run Vltor and Spikes tubes, very nice.
However as near as I can tell the Brownell’s branded tube works just as well.

My Colt 4 position has the best internal finish of all I own. I do not have a vltor carbine but have 2 of the A5.
