If it's off you wont notice it much..... the only lower that really sticks out with my BCM uppers are Colts.

I have a Spike's SBR lower and I often use a BCM 11.5 upper. It matches and functions perfectly.

All my BCM uppers are on Spikes lowers that I built myself
The same BCM 16" Socom upper your wanting, on a "pure" (all Spikes parts) lower 
BCM 16" "Standard" Carbine upper on a Spikes lower using PSA LPK with ALG Defense trigger 
BCM 16" "CHF Middy on a Spikes lower, PSA parts kit. The PSA trigger on this is the smoothest I've got, even better than the ALG trigger |

The BCM upper is a grey color while the spikes lower is an even black. Doesn't bother me at all. |

BCM 14.5" M4 upper on a Spikes spider lower
OP, you won't notice it after a day...at least I didn't. There was a slight difference...but not huge.

These things are done in batches and there is enough tolerance between batches that companies still deem acceptable. Also don't get hung up on having the same companies lower to match the same brand upper. Most AR builders mix and match parts anyway, unless you want a "pure" rifle for resale proposes. Any of those rifles in my photo's lowers equals the quality of a BCM factory built lower. The only stripped lowers I have left in my stash at PSA's. I might do 1 more BCM upper build depending on funds and have no issues using one of those if needed. |

If you get the 14.5" you have to either have it pinned, add $45 bucks for BCM to do it or deal with a tax stamp. The 16" is being offered with BCM's Mod 0 compensator, that's a $85 dollar upgrade on the 14.5''. |

Out of my spikes, three noveske's, colt, rock river, s&w, plus all the others come and gone the spikes is the nicest of them all. Very excellent machine work no flashing and fit and finish it superb.
The spikes punisher lower is my favorite out of them all
