Didn't mean for this to become a 18" vs 16". The decision has been made an I have an 18" barrel on the way. I'm just looking for some pics for inspiration. Thanks to those that have contributed. I really love the PRI handguard look but still want to avoid going towards a Mk12 clone. Its expensive and doesn't do anything the modern handguards don't. If it wasn't for the .mil using them briefly there would be no interest in them Check out the BCM KMR rails. I have the 13" on my 16" and its awesome. If would have went with an 18" barrel I would have got the KMR 15" rail. I know the PRI is pricy but I've always liked it, that's why I like the Mk12, but as I said this isn't going to be a Mk12 clone. I also like the PRI is an Ohio-based company. Most of the handguards I'm looking at are $200+ when not on sale. I would probably go for a KMR except it's Keymod and I'm a MLOK guy now. I have a Noveske NSR that I LOVE but I'm positive it's my first and last Keymod handguard because I have 4 MLOK handguards now and prefer the way it looks and feels. I really like the NSR and maybe I'll go for a 15" Noveske NSR MLOK. I've also always liked the look of handguards from Apex Machining so maybe I'll see if their 15" goes on sale soon. There's always the Geissele option, I really like those. If I wait until Memorial Day 2017 maybe I could get a 15" blem? The SMOS GFY builder set with upper, lower, and handguard is very tempting. SMOS is the OEM supplier for Noveske (and is/was supplier of LaRue lowers) so it's just like the NSR. I think this is currently the leading option in my head. What I do know is that unless I get it for free or super cheap I'm not going for a quad rail. I should also start thinking about optics for this blaster. Just for fun here are some of my 16" barreled builds. 13" Noveske NSR keymod, 16" FN midlength barrel. Great weight and handles well, I currently use this blaster most for 3-gun type events Geissele 13" Mk8 with 16" PredatAR barrel 15" ALG V1 MLOK I just finished tonight, 16" Ballistic Advantage Lightweight midlength, awaiting optic |

I'm getting ready to build an 18" SPR type and I can't quite make up my mind which barrel I want to use. I've got a URX 3.1 laying around and I think I want to use an A2 stock vs another LMT or B5. The two barrels I'm considering are the Noveske SPR or a Mk12 Douglas SPR barrel. I'm leaning towards the Noveske, will their intermediate gas system work well with the A2 rifle buffer?

I highly recommend these Vortex Viper PSTs as far as optics go. This one is the 2.5-10x33 FFP MRAD reticle(EBR-1 I think). View Quote That's a good looking build! I've been eyeing the vortex 2.5-10 myself for this build. Is the illumination bright? I had a UBR and can say that they are sturdy and have a comfortable cheek weld. They are very heavy and expensive though. I sold mine for a moe fixed stock, cut weight, same stability, and pocketed $200 for other things. I have sopmods on most of my shorter builds, but I might put the fixed moe on this 18 inch build. It can't be adjusted, but I like the LOP. Maybe I'm crazy for recommending something so cheap to arfcom, but good things still come in cheap packages sometimes. |

My LaRue 18 in Stealth Barrel should arrive tomorrow! So here's where I'm at with my idea's for a SPRish build.
LaRue Low Profile Gas Block - 0.75 LaRue Mid-length gas tube VLTOR MUR upper receiver Trying to decide between a Geissele Rail or ALG, 15 inch. As of right now I'm thinking LMT bolt carrier group. As far as a lower is concerned I’m thinking anything I can get a good deal on. Same for a LPK. Trigger will be a CMC 3.5lb single stage. I’m also considering the VLTOR A5 receiver extension. Decisions, decisions… Edited to add BCG |
