It is that.

And I understand the nostalgia, since I have it too (I served in Italy not here - but I wanted to be here in reality).

It's all issued stuff, mostly used - including the government A2 surplus upper that contains a full auto BCG.

It's our best America - at least it is to me.

They seem to be back ordered everywhere, Armalite just moved to Arizona so maybe they will start making them again.
You can watch the EE forum, I've seen them from time to time.

Once me and a friend walked in to the local gun shop who had two M14 mags for sale. So my buddy who was carrying his M1a tried them and couldn't get them to lock. I took a look and low and behold the floor plates on the mags was marked Armalite. They where gen 2, and priced at $14 each! SOLD!!

I'm hoping to.  Traded into an upper with a proof research 20" barrel on it...

Got this upper in by far one of the weirdest trades I’ve ever been apart of.

I think it’s an OG bushmaster barrel. Some weird ass brake. Pri front sight and charging handle. On an ancient surplus ammo and arms lower.

Super fun musket.

Did you have to trim the rail?  I thought the Aero 12.7" rail would partially cover the gas block normally, but will happily be wrong.  Additionally, who did the pin for the fsb?  That's a great looking stick.

Thanks man. I found another photo of that build as well - sorry about the lighting. I sold off that upper and regret it. It was a fun rifle, very light and handy. As far as the handguard goes, no trimming was necessary. It all bolted up without issue. I sent that barrel out to John Thomas at Retro Arms Works for the pinning. If you haven't heard of him already, I highly recommend his work. Super fast and very reasonably priced.

I'll be honest and admit I might just clone that and put a PA 3x prismatic on top and call it good to go.  That's a great looking rifle.  My current 20" is a heavy pig but super accurate (RRA match HBAR) so something lighter and handier would be nice.

Do it! You'll like it. I miss that one, I'll definitely build another some day.

Light is definitely my preferred. I had built out a 20” Larue stealth with a 13.2 Larue quad rail. It was stupid heavy. Parted it out and never shot it. Went with an fn chf barrel and 13.5 Geissele mk4, much more maneuverable and handy. I might eventually build a match upper for that lower but for now, I love blasting fmj through my setup. I can even run and gun with it pretty well.

My first AR was a factory 16" Armalite. Every new AR since then I have built myself until I bought this 20" Colt this past summer. I have to say, it's iconic and perfect just the way it is.

Ok so maybe it needs a sling, but other than that it's perfect.

My current heavy as hell 20" shoots great with 69gr GMM (10 round group pictured) but I'm thinking a lighter one for not throwing out my back would be nice  RRA national match A4 upper, SA adjustable gas block, milspec lower with a Centurion AST trigger, and a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56mm scope.  The heavy RRA rail will probably get swapped for an Aero in the spring along with a regular low profile gas block instead of the SA.  It was giving super inconsistent ejection once tuned.

I was considering doing exactly that before I went on this retro kick starting a few months back.

Nice!

I had an A4 upper once, but I wasn’t a big fan of the RAS so I sold it, the QRF is lighter and free floating so I was thinking I’d like it better. I’d like to see how it looks on a “clone” though.

It shoots beautifully with the H.
Not that it had any malfunctions with the standard carbine, but seemed "cleaner" recoil with the H.

Found this thread while looking for ideas on my next build. Looking to do another GWOT clone.

This is my current 20in build that I have. Aero Precision Upper, Windham Weaponry lower and the sling is from HubCityOutdoors.

A2 clone. WW barreled upper on a PSA lower.

PSA FN barreled M16A4 inspired build.

Aero build. Just put a Linemount A1 stock on it, and now I'm probably going to have to replace all my A2 stocks.

BCM upper KISS build.

I have 20” Clinton era bushmaster A2 HBAR. It’s been sitting lonely in the back of the safe while the SBR’s and M4gerys get the love. Trying to decide if it’s worth pulling the barrel and swapping for a lighter military barrel with flash hider and bayonet lug. Maybe if I got back into the A2 it would get some range time.

Apparently Windham Weaponry is opening back up. If you decide to swap barrels I've been VERY impressed with the WW 20" gov profile barrel on my A2.
