It's kinds old school, but it's cheap, quality and effective. Has the phantom fallen out of favor?
I have two, .223 and .308. Both gets used one several rifles each with their own QD mount.
Nope. They were assholes on the phone when I called them with a tech question a few years ago, so I spend my money elsewhere.
I use the YHM Phantom on my current rifles. For the price it can't be beat. On recent builds I've been using Spikes dynacomp and similar style devices.
Only the QD suppressor mount versions for my Ti.30 QD can.
I've got a few lonely Vortex flash hiders sitting in the spare parts box now that I got the can. |
Not exactly sure what you are asking. I have. 7.62 Ti that is currently being sold and transferred once the stamp comes back.

I still have a stainless QD 5.56 Phantom that permanently resides on my 20" scoped rifle. It was my first rifle can but it has been replaced as my primary go-to rifle can.
As a starter can it is ok, but after owning it for a while I grew tired of its weight and its butt ugly mounts. The latest design revision of the flash hider mounts took them even further into the derp forest. |
Yes they are simple and effective. The 5c1 will be pinned to my 14.5 recce

It was released like a year or so after I bought my stainless can. |

I had the Titanium phantom but just got finished transferring it. It's a fine can, i just couldn't stand the butt-ass ugly mounts.

I thought we were discussing flash hiders.
If so, the answer is YES. It is one of the most effective budget flash hiders out there. You have to spend a lot of money to get only marginally better visible signature mitigation for carbine length barrels. I just put one (5c2) on my current build and see no evidence of anything in its price range or close to it that performs better. |
The Phantom is on 2 of my rifles. Have been for a long time. Very effective flash hider. Haven't seen a reason to change it.

My YHM M2 30 cal Phantom is my go-to suppressor. It lives on my HD rifle at the bedside.
Love it. |

I put 200 rounds thru my 14.5" Green Mountain 1/9 barrel this weekend with a perm attached YHM Phantom. I let my father shoot the majority of the IMI (hot) 55 grain ammo th4u the rifle. Standing off to the side on a dimly lit range, I noticed zero to almost zero muzzle flash out of the Phantom in the company of Smith Enterprises "Vortex" Flash Hiders that are my favorite. The "Phantom" produced the same "absent" muzzle flash that the Vortex produced... The Phantom with ball bulk ammo is extremely effective at eliminating muzzle flash. Use some ammo with a flash retardant and there will be even less. The "Phantom" is a very, very solid choice whether on a budget or not...

I use them all the time on SBR's, and rifles that are gonna be knocked around real good.
The Phantom is still my favorite flash hider.
Looks good, and it does a good job of suppressing the flash. Dave N |
Yup.
One even came with this 6" thread protector that weighs 20oz. |
Works great. And is cost effective. Will buy more if need to
ETA: Also no ping sounds like from the pronged ones |
My ArmaLite middy has had a YHM Phantom on it for several years. I see no reason to replace it. It looks good (without being garish), and does its job.

So get a short barrel and a long handguard, and run a blast shield when you don't have the can on http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/ARFCOM%20stuff/IMG_20140926_174010_536.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/ARFCOM%20stuff/DSCF1684.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I went with the Surefire 556-rc as a more expensive fix |
Not with me they haven't. I have around 30 of them and just received my most recent one just a week or two ago. More expensive flavor of the month FS do nothing to impress me.
I have to admit that, after all these years, I still like and use the 5C2.

I have couple of them on my rifles. The great thing is the ends of the flash hinder does hurt. I accidently drop one of my rifles on my foot and the flash hider right on my bare foot and did it hurt.
My favorite flash hider. I have a couple. Still running a birdcage also.
I still run a 5c2. Love the looks and the performance. Love the price too.
I got one permed onto a Colt M4LE 14.5" and one on an ArmaLite 16" Middie. Good stuff, IMHO !
I've used one on my .308 for the last 10 years but just removed it in favor of a Griffin Armament Tactical Comp.
Nothing wrong with the good old phantom. Just decided to go a different route. |
Recently put one on my first pin and weld, works great, cheap, what's not to like?
