I heard, a while ago (after the TTR was discontinued), that he was going to start making LR-300s again.

Anyone in the know?

I thought Para USA bought them out?

I've always wanted one. I recently almost came to a deal for one of the old style uppers.
I would like to see more of these rifles. They have so many really cool features. I would also like to see the stock and unique pistol grip more available.

I heard that the design was licensed to them, and they stopped licensing it. Or, that he bought it back.

Para couldn't sell them, they ended up wholesaling them through copes or somebody in SGN for half what Para was asking

That's because they were asking far too much. A ZM marked rifle for $1500 or less would be much more desirable.

Which stock are you referring to? The adjustable folding one? Or the para type?

I love the delrin grip.

Too bad the agreement with YHM went away.  If Al brings back the ZM, I would be happy to get one.  I always wanted one but things just keep pushing it away.

I think arfcom sold them years ago, or tried to. Met him at a match years ago, nice guy. No idea what the appeal of that rifle is.

Fire while folded with a standard AR manual of arms.
That's the only real advantage.

The YHM one seems nice, and that's the one Para used, but I'd like to see more options as well.
Does anyone have a source to get that pistol grip? I'd really like one. And eventually a LR300 to go with it!

My bufferless setup is similar, but a bit beefier in the weak points, and I added forward/side charging.
Also the ones I've built so far are in the 10" range, so that keeps the weight from being so far forward.

They're nose heavy because of the rail and barrel profile, not because of the gas system.  The barrel is pretty standard other than the location of the gas port, and can be swapped out with relative ease, but the rail requires a bit more effort.  A 14.5" LW profile barrel will drop about half a pound off the front of the gun.

i never said anything about the gas system being the reason they are nose heavy, now did i?

they are a nose heavy pig and there's not much you can do about it.

Have the barrel reprofiled?
Add a heavier stock? (If that's how you like to go about fixing balance...)

Why is that?  Because it's not your cup of tea?
Do you fear innovation and change?

How about this?

I see the ZM stuff as a step above something like the now popular LAW folding mechanism, because the gun can be fired and cycle while folded.
May not be important to everyone, but either way it does shave 6-7" off of a stowed rifle.
If you shorten the front end a bit, you've got a full power backpack gun.

There are other upper options nowadays that will function while folded with the proper considerations.

Faxon ARAK21 (heavy)
Oly OA93 (ugly and no tool-less disassembly)
RRA PDS (not bad, but not a fan of how the spring guide rod is retained against the lower)

I have a very early ZM prototype float tube for an AR. Cool stuff. Might be the first float tube ever. Being a vintage dirt bike nut makes it even cooler. Will have to post pics later.

When did float tubes become popular anyway?

I much prefer that handguard to the railed one, it seems both lighter and less bulky.  Wanna trade?

How's the cheek weld in your stock?

Cheek weld is ok, but if you go nose to CH you'll end up with a bloody lip from the hinge, and it would be really great if somebody made a wider shoulder pad.

Being a vintage dirt bike nut, a freak for anything Honda Elsinore related and a fan of the Fox Air Shox from the 1970's, I jumped at the chance to nab a little piece of AR history about a year ago. Seems the owner of ZM was quite the good dirt bike rider himself being part of the U.S. International Six Days Team back around 1980 or so. When he set out to build a float tube for an AR, he ripped a set of shock bodies off one of his bikes and welded them together. Ended up cutting up several sets of $400.00 shocks to build a couple of them so if nothing else these may be some of the most expensive tubes ever. Two shock bodies welded together, the seal head modified to contain the barrel nut and cut to length. Who would have imagined back then that this would be a standard item? Gotta love those guys who just can't leave things alone and always try to make something better.

Anyway, here's a couple of my projects with Fox Air Shox on them. 1977 Honda CR125 and 1977 Suzuki RM125, both replicas of the Fox race team from 1977.

Here is my ZM float tube screwed onto a loose upper I had laying around.

Potential future project. This one belongs to a fellow Honda nut/friend.

You guys made it the SEBR one year.  I bought #10 of 100.  I sold that rifle just before the market went completely nuts prior to Obama's second term.

It was a decent rifle for sure, but the folding stock wasn't all it was cracked up to be.  There was also no customer support or easy way to get parts if you needed them.
