My M&P15 with Troy rail and all my goodies on it got stolen back in Jan. I just finally got the insurance money back (what a joke that was).

So I figure I have about $700 to work with. Right now I'm leaning towards this setup.

With one of PSA's $89 generic bolts.

Seems like a good package.

What other options do I have out there for $700? I know I cant replace my M&P for that little of money (or at least with all the stuff I had on/in it) but I'd like to at least find an acceptable replacement.

If you are willing to go basic and don't need forward assist and dust cover, many vendors and lgs are selling M&P 15 Sports with 30 round PMag and box of ammo for $699 right now.

Yeeaahhh...

OP,  as always, Palmetto is running great deals on complete uppers and then the blem lowers. I'd go that route if I were you.  A pmag cost almost nothing now a days, and a box of ammo isn't a selling point for me.

You can get some cheap used parts off EE.

This is only $620ish sipped. Much better than a mp15 with a nice barrel and a m16 mcg.

PSA carbine kits go for $399 to $499 on sale plus a $50 to $100 lower you get a high quality cheap in price rifle.

Any Palmetto rifles will be good to go.

The Palmetto Freedom Rifle is only $599

I personally don't like the untreated SS barrel(only visually), but everything else is good to go.
It seems like a great rifle, especially at $599....

I'd go with this:

Sopmod lower - $200

M4 upper and strikefire - $340

BCG - $90 (or the one from AIM)

CH - $25 (or buy a gunfighter elsewhere)

I love the B5 SOPMOD better LMT SOPMOD  and you can find them for under a $100.00 and has the no spin QD mount.

That isn't a sale.  They are normally around $650.  They go on sale for $599.

At that price point PSA is hard to beat. Just make sure you get the Premium line with the FN barrel. Very good rifle for the price.
Or this Upper with bolt
with this lower

Or THIS with  LBK.

Look around there is almost endless options out there.
Sorry to hear about the theft. Scumbags!

I'd go to AIM-surplus and piece together a complete Spikes midlength personally OP. How was your rifle stolen? I hate insurance companies. They always want their premium with no quibbling but never want to pay you right for your missing/damaged property...

Sorry for your loss. Honestly i would scrape together some extra cash and buy the rifle you want or to replace the rifle you had, dont cheap out on this especially if its for self defense. if it was just a fun plinking range gun then go cheap and get w/e you can afford with the cash.

You can buy another M&P15 for under 600. You can check out AIM and possibly put together an upper and lower for 700. or a little more. If you go the PSA route just remember their shipping is slow and it may be a month before you have upper and/or lower in hand.

I agree... Come on, PSA's "freedom carbine..." That's their bottom of the barrel stuff, unlike their premium parts, which I like quite a bit to be honest... The Freedom series stuff isn't horrible by any means, hell, it might even be better than the P-tac stuff, but it isn't better than S&W...

You realize what kind of smith you're going to get in that price range, right?

It ain't going to high end. Hell, it might not have a dust cover.

What, in your opinion makes that better than a M&P15? M&P has a Melonite barrel, this PSA isn't even chrome lined

I would consider a Smith Sport, seems like around here the Windhams are pretty reasonably priced as well.

You are correct. It doesn't have a chrome lined stainless barrel...

I have no idea....care to enlighten me?  And no dust cover....well, that changes everything.....no range/mall ninja would be caught dead without one of those!

A superior type of steel, mpi/hpt, hammer forging, chrome lining, ect can be had on a sub $600 build.

The M&P in that price range will have none of that.

sure it can be had, if you blow all your budget on the barrel.......don't get me wrong, barrel is important, but so are quality parts, triggers etc. And correct me if I'm wrong, M&P barrel is melonite......not exactly dog food
