I had a MK46 for a while overseas. I still miss that thing. So much lighter and more reliable than the 249. MK48 was awesome too. We only used our brand new 240Ls for the trucks.

Only cool shit we had.

EDITED:

       DATA POINT.

Colt M4 14.5 barrel cut to 10.3".  Gas port size: 0.073", as specified by me.  One day turnaround. Work done by ADCO.

For those who think all the talk about gas port size is silly.  Obviously 0.073 is not clone correct.  To me it is about getting the gun to perform the best it can, according to my usage.  I am getting a few more cut exact same way just in case we have another the first whatever president of the United States coming.

We only had 1 SAW for the entire PLT and never had any 240's til we started doing air assaults and would be dismounted for days at a time. We didn't even have a Mk19 cause 6 and 7 didn't like how unreliable they were.

Also, to response to this POST a few pages back about factory Colt 10.3.

If the barrel in the blurry picture was this one below (LINK TO THE EE AD), to my knowledge, Colt does not produce barrels with engraved markings.  I will be happy to be corrected if it is otherwise.  It is likely that it was a Colt barrel cut by a third party and then engraved.

EDIT:

As pointed out by this POST, I believe an authentic Colt 10.3" only has as MFG date and typically Colt stamps in the barrel extension area.

EDIT:

You can see an authentic Colt 10.3 here (LINK TO GB).  The guy has some of the rarest and the most beautiful Colt parts I have seen.  I have been pointed back to him a few times while searching for affordable Colt parts.

Beautiful. And .073 is a fantastic size choice. My only issue with ADCO 10.3 barrels is every one of them I've seen is I've noticed they're just a hair longer than 10.3 factory barrels. They seem to be more around 10.4. Normally that small of a difference wouldn't bother me, but when you put it on an upper with a rial where the threads normally start right even wit the end of the rail, it's more noticeable. Otherwise, they do great work.

That is the one.

link for team members

this is a 10" barrel

Mine has all the other Colt markings as well, the date and the "O"

Even if it is a 3rd party cut, I am not out any money, I still have to send some 6920 barrels to get chopped, and they will run me about $300 as well, when it is all done, ..HECK, I even have a SOCOM barrel that was chopped to 10.3

All uppers share this problem, if they are not set up properly to cycle a certain ammo they will choke. you just have to use the proper buffer, spring, carrier combo and it will cycle anything you want.

if youre not wearing gloves rail covers are a must, and ladders dont count as rail covers, they are designed to protect the rail from abuse, not protect your hands from heat.

Here's another one, not quite as cool as the first. The carry handle was the only rear sight I had lying around that wasn't already in use. It will eventually be replaced by a KAC flip-up and EOTech EXPS.

So according to the seller of this GB add, the Colt 10.3" barrels lack the C MP CB 5.56 NATO 1/7 markings under the gas tube. It appears that they are only seen on the 10.0" barrel? If that's the case, then a cut down barrel (properly done) would look identical to an issued Colt barrel (with .070" gas port).

That's an earlier model, before they made the civilian FDE variant. You can tell by the blockier housing for the magnification switch assembly. The newer design, whether commercial or military, or all the darker brown color, similar to the color of the RIS II rail.

Please feel free to correct me.

Most likely, some had interesting color sets. Color on mine isn't consistant either.

Been playing with a couple different configurations.

First: The CQBR as it normally sits

Second: I've been throwing an ACOG on that one and I really like it. I know most people think magnification on a 10.3 upper is stupid, but it's a lot of fun to shoot. I do miss the fast acquisition when it's on there though, which has me wondering if a ECOS wouldn't be perfect. Already had an ELCAN on it and hated it, so an ECOS might be a perfect in-between. But for now, this setup is a blast out in the desert.

Third: I thought it might be fun to swap rails on my Mod 0 and do a hybrid Mod 0 / CQBR with an FSP rail I had sitting around. I really like how it feels, and though it's not any kind of kosher CQBR setup, it's fun. Just need a good light setup for it. I tried the X300u and it just didn't feel right like it does on the non-FSP rail.

All of these still feel/look really incomplete without a PEQ-15. At least I know what's next.

Not stupid at all, killer. Don't worry about what they think because that's exactly what it is...a thought.

ACOG works great on the CQBR.

Looks basically like mine when I take the pic with flash.  Mine wasn't in direct sunlight either.

Bad news for me guys  Below is an email to BCM describing what occurred to my LMT upper 2 weeks ago. I have followed their advice as far as trying to contact LMT, but haven't heard anything thus far. I have not called them, just used the comments section on their 'Contact Us' page of website.

Having not heard from LMT via email, I am going to go ahead and call them tomorrow. Although, I believe I am going to have to eat this barrel

Might be a good excuse to go 10.3 this time instead of 10.5?

Hello,

I purchased an LMT 10.5" Upper Receiver Group from BCM on 12/18/12 order # 312513. This upper has approximately 500 rounds through it unsuppressed.

Yesterday I installed a CMMG .22 conversion kit in this 10.5 URG. I loaded a 25 round mag and shot 8-10 rounds through it when one of the .22's fired out of battery, exploding the bottom of the the case.

This exact scenario with the same .22 conversion kit occurred with a friends 16" carbine prior to mine, and we checked his bore for obstructions before shooting again. His bore was clear, and with my barrel being much shorter and not finding any obstructions in his, I didn't check mine for obstructions.

I cleared the ruptured .22 case from the chamber and continued firing the remaining 15 rounds of .22 LR without incident. I removed the .22 conversion and reinstalled my BCM BCG and fired 30 rounds of M855 without incident as well.

After returning home, I cleaned the URG and inspected the chamber and bore as I always do. This is when I noticed an "expanded ring" in the bore 1 1/4" on the chamber side of the gas port. It appears to be a pressure ring or bulge, and is very visible by looking down the muzzle end of the barrel. It also can be felt with a cleaning rod and patch.

I am sickened by this as I believe when the .22 fired out of battery, the bullet stopped in my barrel and I ended up firing another .22 behind it which slammed into the lodged bullet and created this expanded ring in the the bore.

This is the second LMT 10.5 URG I have ordered from BCM along with countless other parts and accessories. Your CS is the best in the the business and that is why I am coming to you first. Will you help me with this issue, or help me deal with LMT? I will be glad to send you the URG for inspection as well.

Attached are a few pictures depicting what I am talking about.

Thanks again and have a great Memorial Day,

Pat

Their response

Hi Pat,

Thank you for contacting us.  Unfortunately there is nothing we can
offer you in our house as this is not a BCM(r) product and several years
have elapsed since your purchase.  We advise you first, not to fire that
upper OR use that .22 conversion kit in ANY other weapon system.
Second, please contact LMT customer service at
http://www.lewismachine.net/contact.php and seek their assistance.  We
also recommend you contact CMMG at
http://www.cmmginc.com/Articles.asp?ID=250 given that the common
variable here is the installation of the .22 conversion kit.

Hopefully a remedy can be found in a timely matter for you.  Please
email us with any additional questions.

Thank you for your continued support of BCM(r)
