If you can find one, the Redi-Mod is the same thing that was lightened substantially.
I see a trip to the mill for one of mine in the future.

The one I've had forever actually had 2.5 combat tours under it's belt.

Didn't know you still had that one lol. Shit maybe we should invest in a hydraulic press/bending jig and make our own. I wouldn't feel so left out! I definitely need one for the CQBR  at a minimum.

Cool project, and I would try it just for fun, but the 25% weight savings wouldn't be worth the 100% cost increase to me when they were both new.

If you're already going to have an additional loaded magazine on your rifle, the ~2.1 oz savings would be negligible.

But OuNeCeS eQuAl PoUnDs.

No, SOPMOD is the upper.  Lower is a standard M4A1 and originally came with one sided safety.  You have to remember that the SOPMOD program started in mid 90s for the block 1s.  Block 2s didn't come on board until the 10s and ambi safety originally not a requirement.

@Combat_Diver

I know you have probably already been asked or commented on this before.... But what are some of the most common grips you see on SOPMODS besides the a2? (I absolutely hate the hump)

I was hoping to convince @Tigwelder1971 to mod one and work out a barter or something.

And in all fairness there is a Redi mag on the EE ( at least last night) and I left it alone.

@DontBurhMe

My apologies, my hatred was misdirected

Has anyone else built multiple Block 1/1.5PRs after trying other clone builds? I built a Block II FSB about two years ago but honestly wasn't impressed with it as much as others on here all. Granted I'm sure someone here would like to club me like a Japanese fisherman clubbing a baby seal for saying that, but it never really intrigued me as much as a nicely built Block I variant.

Though I do have a M16A2 clone which is near and dear to my heart. Guess I only want to build clone rifles of those I personally handled will I was in the service, but to each their own

I've already got two, both built with early Colt Expanse rifles when they came with 6920 lowers. One rocks a N1 and the other a Colt waffle. I've thought about building a third, but at same time want to buy my optics for the other two first (AimPoint and Acog)

As I'm sure some others here would agree with me I view the block 2 14.5 more as a handy DM or "recce" rifle than a carbine. The block 1 setup is just more simple and usually lighter. Not free floated. It just feels more like a 14.5 carbine to me.

10.3s on the other hand, I prefer the block 2 setup for all roles

To reduce your aggression towards me I can tell you where to get a brand new Acog for $875 for your B1...

I really like my B2 but certainly love something about the B1 and 1.5. Gives me warm fuzzies and tingles.

I don't really have any room to give you advice because I'm working on a B1 (early), B1, B1.5 PR, B1.5 variant 2,FSP, B2, Blackhawk down build or Colt 623 or 727, and CQBR (EOD), MK18 mod 0 and not even getting started on the MK12s.

Each his/her own as we all have preferences.  I carried a B1 for over 15 years and appreciate it.  Build B2s down range and like Milspec said like them on 10.3".
