Lol yeah this will most likely be a cage code upper. Only reason I really care is it was only 150.00 and I spent 350 for a new Colt 14.5" socom barrel. Hopefully I have the rifle complete in 4 months. I'm leaving the parts at my parents house and that's probably when I'll be back.

Ordered a colt upper, but pretty disappointed it didn't have a cage code or c stamping, but it will still work. All other parts minus optic are ordered, so I should be able to finish it this month.

So not to sound shitty but if there’s no markings, how do you know it’s a Colt and not just a standard milspec upper?
I only say this as AU has been known in the past to fuck around with parts and pawn stuff off as Colt that’s not Colt.
Personally, no cage code or “C” and I’m not buying it.

I mean if it’s no more than a milspec upper, no biggie but I’m sure as shit not paying AU a premium for a non marked upper.

Unfortunately Colt does not appear to be marking uppers any more at least not consistently. Not really sure how else to tell if it’s Colt or something else.

If it’s got a dust cover and forward assist there is a difference in the staked dust plunger vs commercial most others use. The FA also has a roll pin holding the cap.

I do agree about AU. They have sold me non Colt detents and springs passed off as Colt recently.

From Colt you will see BAFE (Square) forge and Cerro (Keyhole) forge. With and without a C or 13629 CAGE code. I have new factory Colts that have neither a C or CAGE code. If you buy it commercially and not on a military or LE contract, its a roll of the dice on what you will get.

Well fortunately it was only 150.00 which is less than everyone eles premium. As stated, it's a gamble no matter where you get a colt if it will be marked or not. It did have the forward assist and the dust cover with it. Rest of parts should be here tomorrow or Sat. Hopefully can build it after Christmas.

I think the only other modern company I’ve seen use the same dust cover is BCM. They use a different spring for the dust cover though.

It should, at minimum, be dry film lubed interior and be M4 marked above the gas tube hole.

I've seen them sans CAGE /C markings. Sans T-markings. I've only come across one sans dry film (pretty sure that was a fuck up as it was CAGE marked).

I have not seen one minus the M4 marking at gas tube hole.

I will have to look and see if they have M4 ramps. Just a couple of commercial guns without some markings. Doesn't rank as cool in my book. Lol.

Well....if they are not M4 cut, then that explains that!

Edit: Seriously though, if they are and are not M4 stamped I'd be interested to know.

Like I said, I've not come across one yet.

But, then again, Colt's ~ consistency.....so not hand in hand.

If you do get one without the M4 marking check feed ramps. Should be none for a rifle (M16A3/4)

Obviously government/LE contracts could be done differently. Both of my AR-15A4's, commercial guns, both have M4 feed ramps. Me personally, I don't care because the feed ramps help reliability.

Aren't all Colt AR15A4s M4 ramped, I understood this to be across the board and nothing new?

Much like the omission of F stampings on FSB.

All flat tops/all M4 ramped. Barring .gov/LE possibilities as you stated.

No, last I checked they are different NSN for rifle ramp vs carbine (2019 dated TM). Barrel extension are different on 20” vs 14.5/11.5/10.3”

I see 3 20" barrel w/extension entries, didn't see any NSN assigned in TM. (?)

I see 2 flat top upper receivers listed, differing NSNs assigned.

Which verifies the .gov/LE exceptions as Minuteman1636 stated.

Forward assist is another way to id a Colt, i believe they all have a roll pin on the assist. Stag does too but many don't. Unmarked cerro Colts are correct for Mod H and Rolex Guy Geissele rails builds. I guess from buying them commercially, from Brownells?

You don't need a o-ring (donut) on the spring with the new Colt extractor springs. If I remember correctly, the Colt Gold springs were first introduced in the 2004 time period but took significantly longer to get to civilian hands.

Nice!! I’ve got the same on mine, as I had on my actual M4 in Iraq. Apart from a third pin, pinned flash hider, and an N1 stock (my s/n was W0105xx!), that thing is as close to the real McCoy as possible.

You can’t go wrong with a block 1!

Have only used the TA01NSN and TA-31F.  Used the TA01NSN from 95-08', triduum goes dead in reticle after 10 yrs.  I purchased a TA-31F and with the fiber optic, its always bright.
