Do I need to do anything different to run a mid length upper with an A2 (rifle buffer / buffer tube) lower?

Or slap on and go?

I'm wanting to replace my carbine extension with a rifle one and run an A1 / C1 stock.

Just needing to know if I need different buffer weight

Slap and go.

It will run fine.

Good to go with the military rifle set-up, whether A1 or A2 stock doesn't matter. I just returned from shooting my 16" CMMG middy 1:7 medium-contour with M16A1 stock, buffer and spring. This set-up is exceptionally sweet and has not had any kind of failure at all (only about 300 rounds so far) and as of today is shooting into a 2" ball at 50 yards with a 4x scope.

More pics!

I just ordered an Aero lower as well.

ETA: what rear sling attachment setup is that?

[#5]
Aero lowers are fine. The sling attachment is the standard type for a 'patrol' sling on a full-stock rifle. It's included with the sling. When looking for a sling, you have to keep in mind what you have. I like the A1 stock because its a little shorter and fits me better, and it looks better with the 16" barrel. Sarco had a lot of these unissued stocks at one time for $65, with the military tube, buffer and spring. I have the stock cleaning kit in mine. Makes it heavier but also balances the heavier barrel some. I call this one my 'mini-rifle'.

I don't know which attachment he is running but Specter Gear makes a similar product. I have one and it's good stuff.

It is fine. I have used an AR midlength on an A1 buttstock for years.

My latest rifle is a midlength on a RR entry stock.  Have not yet shot it though...

With Glock 17 for scale.

Sorry I've got no pics because back in 2005 my Colt 6721 upper build which I replaced the factory heavy barrel with a Operator midlength barrel which I temporarily tried it on my Colt Match Target HBAR lower with fixed A2 stock.

My 6721 lower was not completed yet at that time so I slapped my just built midlength upper on my A2 rifle lower just to try out my midlength upper.

It worked fine and I'm not surprised because I used to have a factory built Colt Sporter Lightweight carbine 6530 with a carbine gas system upper on a fixed A2 rifle stock back during the ban years and had no FTF problems at all using different kind of military surplus ammo.

I dubbed it mini-A2.

I have since sold it to my father who installed MOE handguards and a MOE stock. I will admit, it looked nice in the A2 setup, but was very uncomfortable to me. I only had it because I had the lower back in the ban days and it was a cheap and easy stock to use.

Here's a pic of a varmint build I did a while back. It is a 16" mid length gas with an A2, no issues what so ever.
Specs are
Aero lower
PSA LPK
DIY trigger using JP 4.5 FCG spring kit, bobbed and polished the hammer and trigger engagement areas. Yields about 5.8 to 6lbs on a RCBS trigger scale.
A2 stock
Used barrel marked DTI 1-9  ( assuming Del-Ton ) 16 mid
Stag / CMT BCG ( AR15 carrier not FA )
No forward asst ( Schuster plug ) and no ejection port cover.
Primary Arms scope mount
Simmons White tail classic

I agree with what was posted above - this is definitely one of the best looking setups in my opinion. The A1 stock just looks completely *right* with a middy 16. I may have to get one some day.

Really debating which direction I want to go for optics. I kind of want a 1-4, but I don't know how that would look with the FSB. There's always the ACOG, but that obviously costs a good bit... we'll see.

PSA mid-length Dissipator w/ A2 stock/rifle buffer.  Runs great!

-PSA Complete Mid-Length Dissipator Upper
-PSA Pictogram Lower
-PSA LPK
-Magpul Grip, Handguard, Magazine
-A2 stock for the EE
-Nikon M-223 1-4x w/ Bobro Mount
-MI Low Profile Rear BUIS
-Blackhawk Sling

At 4x you can't see it, a 3x there is a slight shadow, below 3x it is visible, but not distracting once you get used to it.  At 1x it is almost like looking through an Aimpoint (at least with the M-223 on my rifle), though obviously you cannot co-witness.

I am thinking about getting one of the new Nikon P-223 3x scopes for my Dissipator and moving the 1-4x to something else.

Not only have I not had problems, I believe this is the sweet spot for running a suppressor on a 16" gun. I have tried a few variations and this set up requires absolutely no further modification to keep the gas from blasting into my snoot via the charging handle slot.

Any downside?
