now looking for a KAC NT4 in tan/taupe.

Nice gun! ETA: hell of a first post.

KevinB reported that KAC is now using tan cerakote for their QDSS suppressor a. Thus, finding legacy taupe might be tough unless you are willing to pay $1900 from autoweapons.com.

Also, I spoke with a KAC sales rep yesterday about ordering direct. There is a long lead time and they require a 50% non-refundable deposit on NFA items. That isn't a problem if you have time and will follow through with the purchase.

I decided to order a black one from High Caliber Sales. Kevin got my Form 3 paperwork sent off yesterday and his price can't be beat. Of course, it's black and not taupe, but I'm okay with it.

I has legacy taupe NT4!!!!!!oneoneone

yeah,,,, I like the look of legacy Taupe. I emailed Autoweapons, hope they have it!

$1900 isn't worth it. I bought mine for $1250 from Major Malfunction back in 2009/10

yeah I didn't think so either but my logic is losing the battle... Unless... you are willing to part with yours?

They definitely have it (I emailed them this week), but he wants $1895+shipping. Retail from KAC is $1495. I got a black one from Kevin at HCS delivered for less than retail, and his CS is waaaaayyyy better than Autoweapons (i.e., he already submitted my Form 3); plus, Kevin is a good dude. Taupe and the extra potential hassle of dealing with Autoweapons is not worth $400 to me for something that can be coated in KG Gunkote (what KAC used for their taupe suppressors) or Krylon'd.

Also, I will note that there are a couple SureFire SOCOM556-RCs in dark earth on Gunbroker right now for a fair price and cheaper than Autoweapons.

I decided to go legacy because I love the look of the QDSS-NT4 and I already have NT4 mounts for 4 uppers. Switching to SureFire would have blown up my costs to an additional $500.

In any event, enjoy whatever you get.

When I get back on my feet and buying guns again, Im going straight for all QDC mounts.  Still have the NT4 for the two rifles I still own; but everything else will be going QDC.

Yeah I emailed him too, Autoweapons doesn't know if its Tan or Taupe, what they do know is that they just got them recently. So I am assuming they are Tan. Any idea which of the KG Gun Kote it is? I want taupe damn it, even if I have to do it myself!

Just got word from Kevin at KAC that the original color was  of Norrell Moly Resin. But I also read earlier on a thread that it was KG Gun Kote lol. The plot thickens....

KAC used Norrell's Molyresin to coat their suppressors. The taupe color should have been Molyresin Tan Flat. The GunKote was used on the M110 and the Taupe SR-15's.

Thanks again guys! A lot of knowledge on this forum. If all else fails and I can't find an NT4 anywhere else, I will buy the one from Autoweapons and if it comes out in tan that is far too light, I will send it to John Norrell to make it right. It isn't going to be cheap but I think it would be worth it, what do you guys think? I saw the new KAC QDC cans and the tan color on them is far too light IMO. What do you guys think of the new color on the cans?

If you are going to use Moly Resin, why pay the obnoxious price from Autoweapons? Kevin and High Caliber Sales can destroy that price, delivered. I would just keep it tan.

Thanks to EAB for clearing up the coating.

I'd just get the black one and just Moly Resin over it. Isn't this the same procedure they do at KAC?

If you can get the black one done professionally for cheaper than buying a factory Taupe one, go that route.

But if you can find a Taupe one for a good price, definitely wouldn't hurt to go that route either. Money saved = more to put towards the Mod 0.

Why build a clone when you can build the real thing. They just had some in stock a month ago, and at this price who could pass one up!!

Quick question.  It was my understanding that the Daniel Defense RIS II rails had flat head screws to mount the lower to the upper part of the rail?  I have seen two in the EE, one complete upper and one rail by itself with hex screws instead of the flat head.  The rail I have have on my Block II has the flat head.  Did DD change them to hex screw or are the ones I have seen in EE fake?

They could be using aftermarket screws.

Quick question guys. If I'm building an early MK18 Mod 0 clone (M4 Colt barrel cut down to 10.3' and a chopped-off Colt carry handle) would an A1 or A2 grip be more "correct"?

Actually, in general, which grip, the A1 or A2, is more-often seen on authentic MK18 Mod 0s photographed in wild?

I've seen it most with an A2 grip but have seen everything under the sun come in pictures; Troy Battle Axe Grips, Magpul MIADs, MOEs, A1s, ERGO, Tango Down, etc.

Most Probably B5 based on the color matched QD and FDE color.

Definitely a B5.

The absolute easiest way to tell it's a B5 is the color matched QD socket.  JPM beat me to it
