I know, I know. That, and real SF tape switch, also needs a lower with a standard trigger guard

ETA also a more correct sling.... This BRD is a hell of a thing

Well... this is my first post, first AR, first gun I've ever built, etc. etc. etc.  I've always wanted an AR-15 and had a chance to buy one years ago from my dad for next to nothing but I didnt do it.

My original intention was a budget build with the assistance of some of my MSHP coworkers but the parts they were offering just didnt make my bells jingle.

So, after many many hours of reading on here and every other website I could get to I came to this..... which for me is definitely not a budget build....

Anderson Mfg Lower (bought locally for cheap)

Red Barn Armory lower build kit (totally customizable through their website which is awesome)

ALG Defense QMS Trigger

Hogue stock and rubberized grip

BCM 16" Mid Length upper group with Midwest Industries SS12G2 12" handguard

I am going to hit the range tomorrow to see how she performs.  I am going to rob another toy of mine for a scope to use temporarily until I can save up some cash for one.  I am really eyeballing EOTech but will have to snag one for a song if I want to go that route.

Any suggestions for improvements or anything like that is greatly appreciated.  I think this was a good learning experience for me and am glad I did it.  Really wasnt hard at all.

Received my 1913 and Keymod KAGs today and so far I'm liking them. I especially like the way it feels with a quad rail.

Here they are with the BCM vertical grip.

Nice, but a light precision trigger on a short barreled AR pistol?

Sorry. Actually a typo. I'm used to typing sd-e as all my other triggers are them. It's actually an sd-c.

I've decided to go with Bcm after still not getting a LaRue shipped after 2 years.  Now that I'm going to create my own assembly, what is the best approach to go about for a lower? I'm not looking to start stripped lower receiver.  What lowers have paired well with your bcm uppers?

My aero lower feels like it was made for a bcm upper. No wobble, and pins easy to push out

My Anderson Mtg. lower feels great paired with the BCM upper... Though the colors don't match at all.

I think a new BCM stock is in order, I'll probably try and pick one up on Black Friday.

This is a sweet shooter though, I definitely enjoy this rifle.

My M16A5-ish project. I started shooting it earlier this year for iron sight practice and to evaluate how I liked the 20" government profile. It's become one of my favorite shooters. I should have a free float rail in the next week or so. I want to mount either a TA11H-G or an Elcan SpecterOS 4x next year.

Which rail did you buy?  KAC M5 isn't free float but would make for a perfect A5 build

I always thought a 12" La Rue rail would look perfect for an A5.

BCM upper and lower.    Mil-surp carry handle, sling mount, VFG, trigger guard, and not pictured VCAS sling.

I went with a DD Omega 12. There are probably some stronger options on the market, but I like the ability to go back and forth between the rail or the plastic handguard. I find the MOE handguard very comfortable, and most new shooters who handle the upper find it non-threatening compared to some of my other rifles.
