Awesome.  I’d love to do a 13.7 Noveske.  How’s it shoot?  CL or SS barrel?

Stainless. I haven't shot this one yet, just got it together. I have another 13.7" Noveske and it runs great. A little finicky on buffers when suppressed vs unsuppressed, but thats just tuning.

What color cerakote?  Bazooka or Magpul Foliage?

ETA:  nvm you got a factory Vltor Foliage Green upper so it’s gotta be the latter

I got a factory foliage upper, but VLTOR uses gun kote (cant remember the code) and its way different than magpul foliage green. So it was actually cerekoted Magpul Foliage with the rest of the gun, and then I re laser marked it.

Splain how you re'lazered it?  That's some shit I'd like to know about!!  Great looking rifle do you have anything Bazooka Green to do a side by side so I can see the difference??

Well I'm fortunate enough to have an industrial laser marker at work. Also Blowndeadline Cerekote can redo laser marking and do a great job at it if you ever need it done.

I do not have a side by wide with bazooka, sorry. Here is a side by side of the upper and lower after the lower was cerekoted, when we realized they werent going to match.

I just torque it down to 40 ft lbs on whatever side of the nut that will get the holes to line up close.  If it’s a tad less, I go ahead and go more to get it to line up.  Don’t over torque too much as you’ll stretch the receiver slot.  No locktite.

If it wasn't done in gunkote, then it's not clone correct!

Vltor still uses gunkote. 2416F - foliage green

Heck yea! Looks great!

I'm loving all the clones in here. I wonder how many notable Johnny clones are in this thread. TinyCrumb and PFran42 did theirs way back when. Cutler25, Advance, OfficerX and you...I'm probably missing a few.

Does anyone remember how the 2000s uppers were marked? I'm putting together the first Diplomat I saw in eh 2004? and I don't recall if they had black or white crosses on the side of the receiver or if they were even marked at all? Pics for the project inspiration. I have everything except the upper at this point.

It's actually completely factory!  The back end of the tube has the cross on it, the buffer face has the cross on it and fits into the end of the cut-down BCG.  There is no buffer retainer pin or spring.  I'll try to get some pics tonight.

That's pretty neat, reminds me of the Colt SCW buffer system. Is taking it down annoying with the spring constantly pushing on the upper?

Yes!  I can’t push/pull the pins by hand.  I have to use a tool to push them out.

Finally got my hands on a Noveske quad rail. Unfortunately its an SWS not an NQR. Didn't want to have to change barrel nuts. Thinking of sending it out and having it refinished in Armor Black cerakote.

No, not too bad. The little lip is flexible enough that it's doable.
