Still deciding whether to keep it or get a 13.7" or cut it down to 13.7 as I like it more short and accurate.
Dennys Recon 16" barrel
Larue 9.0
Larue bipod adapter
Harris bipod
TA31F
Noveske Lower
Magpul maid and ctr
PRI flip
Troy flip
Arms 19 dual lever mount

Still waiting on an optic; I've got a Burris 1-4x Euro Diamond on order and am on the list for GRSC's 1-4x CQB as well - I guess I'll go with whichever one shows up first!

Definitely in the civilian world!  There are several of us that have put together 14.5" barreled uppers with long rails and magnified optics.  Mine is back at the bottom of page 4.  There's one here somewhere that is 14.5" with a Larue 13" rail and suppressor that kicks ass.

Oh! I went through the thread looking for one, but didn't see your thumbnails.

I guess the only thing you'd loose would be a bit of velocity...

That build is EXTREMELY similar to the one I've been working on for awhile now. Great minds think alike. I'm using different optics though, and an FDE color scheme. Should be a good shooter when finished.

I call mine a Scout, after the 14.5" WOA fluted Recon Scout barrel I got from Jason at JTAC.

Sometimes I run the TA55A ACOG on it instead of the TA31F, just for fun.

And here's another Recon 16" photo, this time with the TA55A and without the OPS suppressor.  Also, before I used the stock on my SBR and replaced it with a LMT.

Edwin,
That Scout is what convinced me to do a 14.5" "recce" type upper.  I'm so glad I did, as it is really handy.

I originally copied Zak Smith's version when building this gun, but soon replaced the heavy Afgan barrel with a fluted 1/7 WOA SS barrel from JTAC.

The small loss of weight had a big impact on the balance of the rifle, particularly when the SpecWar2 suppressor is mounted. The downside of the lighter fluted barrel is the POI shift with/without the suppressor, but since it is a dedicated suppressed rifle it's not a problem.

Pretty much it's current configuration.

The big ACOG works really well with M855 ammo out to 500+ meters, making it a heck of a lot of fun to shoot.  Groups average 1.5 to 2.5 MOA depending on the ammo lot, and the SWR suppressor works really well with this barrel length and high power ammo (M855, Q3131A).  Everybody that fires it suppressed is shocked and delighted how nice it is to shoot.

IOR 1.1-4x26 with an MP-9 reticle, non-illuminated.

I got it to try the 1-4x concept and now that I'm sold I'll be buying an illuminated NXS soon.

I guess you could consider this Recce-ish:

The Basics:
CMT Upper
RRA BCG & Bolt
Stag 1:9 CL 16" Barrel
Troy MRF-MX
Troy Rear BUIS / MI Front Flip Up
Trijicon TA31F
RRA Lower w/ 2 Stage Trigger
Magpul CTR
Ergo Grip

When I took this picture I had just finished getting some 200 yard confirmation fire on a LaRue target and was knocking it down consistently using XM193.  I wasn't the only shooter  on the target so it was impossible to get a group size but the rounds seemed to go right where I put the chevron so it was good enough for me.

Another shot of my recce-ish carbine with my PentagonLight X3.  I love this light, 135 lumens with a Type III anodizing and a shock isolated bezel for less than $100 bucks and with the tape switch and DD mount I have just over $200 invested.  IMO this light is better than my Surefire XM951 w/ the P61 bulb almost on the price point alone but to me the light the X3 throws out is brighter and more concentrated.

Krylon Ultra Flat Camo in khaki, od, and brown.  The khaki went on first followed by od green and finished off with just a little of the brown.

My modest work in progress. Still waiting on a bi-pod. Looking at either the VLTOR(which is not out yet) or the Tango Down, which is. A few other little odds and ends will be added aswell.

An IOR Valdada 1.1x4 CRT optic, and a LaRue SPR mount will be the optic of choice.

Basic Run Down:

CMMG Lower
CMT Upper
PRI Gas Buster
JTAC Precision 16" SS Recon Barrel(NICE.)
VLTOR Compensator
VLTOR Low-Profile Gas Block
LMT M16 BCG
LaRue Tactical 11.0" Tube
Troy Folding Battle Sights
KNS Gen II
Magpul MIAD
Magpul CTR
Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard
Magpul Ladder Panels

Updated pics of my 16” Recon.

In an attempt to “wring out” the maximum versatility and performance of the Recon, I’ve put together two optics setups for it. The first is an Aimpoint ML3 2MOA with or without the 3X magnifier.  The second setup utilizes a Leupold 3-9x36 MR/T.

Inside is a Geissele Trigger & MGI buffer. The barrel is a 1:7 GTS Stainless Steel Recon from Dennysguns. The scope is a Nightforce 1-4 NXS with the FC-2 reticule. In the Magpul Grip I keep 5 tracers. The SOPMOD stock holds six batteries seperated with foam earplugs. Total weight as pictured along with a loaded mag is 9.75 lbs, less without the 135 Lumen Pentagon light. The whole set up balances very well.
