Uh oh, CTRless....  Very nice build.   Question for you, do you have the ranger plate on the 20 for any specific reason?  Do you have a pouch you use to grab them from?  I've got some ranger plates coming for my (2) 20 round curved USGI, but it was mainly for the reason that it will make them tall enough to use as a monopod.   But it doesn't look it will work the same for the straight USGI 20's.  Still a little short for monopodding.

Maybe it's just easier to grab them from a pocket though....  Just curious about your thoughts on that.  It looks freaking nice.

Had to swap-out the magpul due to eye relief. 20s either go in my pockets or in TACOs. The plates just make them easier to grab.

EDIT: I seriously just stopped and stared for 15 seconds at the rifle above. Really nice setup.

Just finished it so I'm post whoring pics during the honeymoon period.

Just need a can. Got my Nodak M16A1 lower being mailed off today for engraving.

Primary Arms is clearing out some NF glass that makes great recce optics:

2.5-10x32 MOAR C455 $1300
2.5-10x42 MIL DOT C488 $1550 (I have this optic and it is fantastic)

These are prices that used optics often sell for.

I'm still debating on swapping the 1-4 for an NXS 2.5-10X32.  I had PRI make the hand guard for me.  14" natural, just holes for a short rail section at 3,6, &9:00.  16" Colt SOCOM upper, LMT lower Geissele SSA-E, UBR.  It easily printed 1.7MOA 10 round groups with IMI Razor Core 77 at 200 yards today.  In my experience with a few lots of that ammo, it's about what it does.

Posted this in the Mod H thread, but I was cleaning up my reloading/gun-stuff room last night and found (among other things) a Ballistic Advantage 16" Ops-contoured barrel.  So I guess that's progress on my Recce build.

I have the same barrel in the build above, I'm pretty happy with it.  You can really tell a difference in weight when you compare it to a 18" SPR profiled barrel.

Oh absolutely.  Wife has a rifle built around one, and my Mod H runs one.  Haven't done substantial load development for either, but I'm thoroughly pleased with results so far.  They're a SMOKIN deal for the price point.

Dang...soooo nice. Even the legit Recon engraved NF scope.

Did you see the post in the Mk12 thread showing the standard (NOT Recon/Nav spec labeled) NF 2.5-10x24 that went for over 3K!! on ebay?
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campId=5337559805&toolId=10001&customId=iyz4vsd30t00zk8a00004&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F182438368463

The seller mentions the whole Recon/Nav spec in the title/description but you can clearly see in the pics it's not the actual engraved version. Just a standard MIl reticle/MOA turret version.
I'm assuming the buyer got caught up in the language and never actually looked closely at the pics.

Makes you wonder how much you can get for yours.

That must have cost a pretty penny. I wish I could find a 12.5" correctly contoured for a mini recce with my FF RAS medium

Contact Compass Lake. They turn a lot of barrels and have blanks from Kreiger, Douglas, Bartlein and a few others.  Just give them a call and ask if they'll do a shorter barrel. They only list 18" SPR countour but they made me a 16.1" off a Bartlein blank. You can choose the twist, chamber cut, finish, etc..

I think a Douglas or Criterion would be the least expensive. Very nice barrels though and awesome customer service.

I may touch it up a bit after mounting the optics.

FYI a paper towel roll center fits perfectly inside the handguard to keep paint off the barrel and gas tube, but you have to cut another to fit inside the first to make it long enough.

Okay, I have my optics mounted today. A good friend had an O.G. NIKON Tactical and some Nightforce rings that he got tired of them cluttering up his safe. I had to buy a Leupold one piece to get proper eye relief, and it came in today. So other than paint(on the scope) it is done.

Aero Precision upper, lower, and Quantum handguard.
Lothar Walther 16" midlength, wylde, nitride barrel
Larue trigger
SLR adjustable gas block
Ace stock
Smith Vortex flash hider

Ballistic Advantage's 12.5" has the proper contouring. That's what I'm using with my Mk18 Mod0 wannabe and AEM5 until I can afford an NT4. Just order it setup for a low-profile gas block and you're set.

Need to caveat you're using the M4 to SPR collar. Any barrel with the .700x.700 shoulder step common on government profiles can use that collar and the AE mount.

Thanks, man.  It really is a sweet little blaster.  It's light and balances very well.  The Docter/Nightforce combo makes it a perfect dual purpose carbine.

For guys running the 16" Ops contour barrel, I would strongly recommend having your shit chopped if you have an SBR lower.

Mine is somewhere around 14".  I will get a more accurate measurement tomorrow.

Can i ask exactly which rock creek barrel you had cut down and profiled for the aem5?  Assuming you got one of those that rainier arms is doing?  Most look as though even if you cut down a 16", the profile would be to small(less then .750)  unless you had a custom collar made(smaller inside diamter)?

Not questioning you at all, just courious as it sounds like a sweet idea...

Ok, I'm trying to nail down a barrel length for the chopped recce.  Please excuse the crude method...I'm TAD right now and have limited resources.

I measured a Douglas-barreled Mk12 upper with a known barrel length of 17.9"  The measurement from crown to rail is approximately 5.5".

I then measured the chopped Rock Creek barrel from crown to rail and got approximately 2.6".

17.9 - 5.5 = 12.4"

12.4 + 2.6 = 15"

So, I'm going to say that the chopped Rock Creek is approximately 15".
