Yep, we're not going to learn anything new unless Colt posts the answer.

Until that happens this thread is dead.

Well, I can give you new measurements...

Rear of upper receiver to top of RSB (by windage marks, where bottom of aperture rests):
RRA flat-top with BM DCH = 2.833"
Colt MT A2 = 8.824"

Center of bore to FSB flat:
RRA 16" middy = 2.290"
KPF .22LR 20" = 2.290"
Colt MT 20" A2 = 2.310"

I didn't expect the Colt A2 to measure different from the others.  It would seem to be about half way between the standard and the "F".  I wasn't really expecting the rears to measure different by that much either.  Hard to measure the rear though, so maybe that's in the receiver's rear curve.

So the definative answer to the question of why Colt changed the sight height is . . .

. . . only Colt knows for sure.

I want to believe that they had a really good reason to give us a world of 2 different front sight platforms, but it's hard to come up with a really good possible reason.

Yes.

Don't forget that they also gave us a taller DCH/rear sight.

I also want to believe that Colt had a good reason for the taller sights.

Bushmaster carry handles are shorter then Colt/Mil-SPEC

Bushmaster does not use taller front sight posts on their flat top rifles and carbines. If you were to use a Colt carrey handle or MIL-SPEC BUIS an a Bushmaster flat top rifle or carbine you would have to use a taller front sight post.

Also, there is no apparent reason that I have found for Colt/MIL-SPEC removable carry handles and flat top FSBs to be taller than Bushmaster's non MIL-SPEC versions.

And yes, Colt's are "MIL-SPEC".

This post is TOTALLY incorrect.

Nevermind. I was wrong.

And I'm still the knucklehead who's going to look for a different height/width  front sight post if I can't get what I have to zero properly.  This is a lot like handgun stuff.  "That's too tall. How about this?"

It is also a little better than counting angels on the heads of pins, but not much.

I have an  RRA M4 LAR flat top with ARMS 40 rear (Trijicon insert) with a YHM front (Trijicon insert) , EoTech, blah ,blah.

It all lines up.  Thank God, or I would have to kill myself.

A question, not a hijack:  So, on a practical note.  How many front post configurations should someone keep for a range/training box?  I'm thinking 3 or 4 in the parts box.  Right now I keep basic trigger assy, lower kit, addl lower parts, pins, etc, common stuff.

Thanks,

Rick

And now back to the regular thread,  Is there a difference between a Colt and a Bushmaster Carry handle.

Wow, we have come a far piece.
