I just put together a 16 inch mid-length with a 9 inch Troy rail.
When I installed it I, per the instructions, tightened down the front underside screw to "clamp" the rail to the barrel providing stability. I was out shooting and ran 4 quick mags through the rifle to test function and I noticed that the fwd. grip portion of the rail quickly became to hot to hold. The clamp in the lower underside of the rail that was in direct contact with the barrel conducted the heat to the rail area right at the front grip area.
The question I have is is there any good reason the I can't just "un-clamp" the clamp so that it is not in direct contact and doesn't conduct heat from the barrel? In fact I may just take the rail apart and remove the clamp assy entirely. I run an Aimpoint Pro attached to the receiver so I have nothing attached to the rail that I need the extra stability for. The 4 screws that hold the rail together should be sufficient and if the rail moves slightly it's no big deal to me.
thoughts? Any problem doing this that I may be overlooking?
