Hmm, stopped by the LGS today and saw a Troy 18' rifle that I was interested in. Liked the length of the barrel, that rail was slim, light and although that stock was a bit funky it worked and was comfortable. Only thing I hated was the grip (that sucked, but I could have changed it out). Was thinking about buying it, so I decided to do a bit of research before buying it.. At the end of a long thread on m4carbine.net there were a ton of reviews on it there was a link linking Lon Horiuchi/Dale Monroe with Troy and HS Precision. I clicked on it and started reading. That led me to page after page talking about this.
One of the better articles...
I don't know where the fuck I was during August, but I hadn't heard about any of this before. I remember the thing about HS Precision (I bought a McMillan stock and been happier as a result a couple different way), but not this.
Wow, what a stupid move in both hiring an anti-gun Chicago cop and Lon Horiuchi's partner who went on to defend his partners actions before Congress and also stated that he was preparing to fire (when no one was in danger), but that Horiuchi fired first.
Dale R. Monroe, the partner of FBI hostage rescue team leader Lon Horiuchi--who fired the fatal shot--said that he was preparing to fire but did not because Horiuchi fired first.
So suffice it to say that I won't be buying that Troy rifle. No, $1,100 for you. I own some of their H&K style flip-up BUIS and I won't be smashing/burning them in symbolic protest (I bought them before Troy felt it was okay to side with a guy just 'cause that guy's a former cop rather than worrying about shit like religious freedom, an intrusive government, government agents feeling that it's okay to murder civilians that disagree with them and so on), but I won't be ever buying anything else of theirs.
His business, he can run it into the ground if he wants to. I'll vote on their employment decision with my dollars and go elsewhere. Nothing I can't live without.
It also didn't help that in the reviews their bolts on these rifles broke and that their BCG's on them were improperly staked in a bunch of examples as well.
So yeah, there's that too.
Whew, dodged a bullet. Fuck em, I'll just buy another Noveske or maybe a LaRue (at least those guys are/were patriots).
