The bolt release on the SR-47 was indeed functional, but required modified magazines. You could still use regular unmodified AK mags with it, but it wouldn't hold the bolt back after the last round. There was a thread on it a while back on silencertalk.com about it, and that's what the KAC guys said. I'm not sure if you could use it to manually lock the bolt back, but I don't see why not. Quick question. Every picture of this rifle I've seen there is no bolt release on the left side. Does the bolt not stay back after the last round is fired? If not what was the reason behind not keeping the bolt catch? That's one of the main control advantages of the AR15 platform over the AK47 platform. Deleting it just seems somewhat foolish to me. The mag catch on an AR is activated by the follower in the magazine. Hence why there's a cutout on the rear top of the magazine, and space behind the loaded rounds so the rounds don't activate the catch. AK mags have neither. RRA didn't foolishly delete it, there was no way to have it in the first place. Picture courtesy of "a308garand", in an old thread. http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/ar111.jpg Thanks. Usign unmodified AK mags was one of our goals in th edesign, and the LAR-47 works well with most of them. Steve/RRA I understand how the bolt catch/release works, and I understand it would be an engineering nightmare to figure out how to make one work with the AK mags. And I know RRA hates every time someone compares the LAR-47 to the Knights Armament SR47. But I'm going to anyway. Every picture of the SR47 I've seen it has a bolt catch, and I'm pretty confident the bolt catch on the SR47 isn't just a cosmetic thing otherwise they would have deleted it just like RRA has decided to. And that was 2001. http://weapontec.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/kacsr47.jpg The bolt release on the SR-47 was indeed functional, but required modified magazines. Id at least like the option. unmodified ak mags are nothing a dremel can't make modified. And since the gun isn't coming with a combloc stamped steel mag it shouldn't have been terribly difficult so make the RRA mag work with the catch. I mean at this point there's really no hope the LAR-47 will ever have one, but if it does really well I can only hope KAC decides to make a civilian SR47. I can dream can't I? |

You can certainly dream. You can even dream about an LAR-47 with bolt hold open. Just remember that dreams are a manifestation of your subconscious, rather than reality.
have a happy new year everyone. Steve/RRA |

Nothing precise that I can point to and say "We'll start shipments on this date...". It should be very long, but I can't say exactly when yet.
Steve/RRA |
|
Steve, do we have any insight into delivery? I still have my order from August 21st, 2012.
|
|
With all do respect you said you were hoping to start shipping in December. It's now almost a whole month later and not only have you not shipped anything you still can't even tell us a date! I understand this to be customary business in the gun industry but in the rest of the world if a business told customers these things and years later still had not delivered a product and couldn't even say when! That company would be gone. I don't understand how you don't know when you are going to produce something. I don't believe that the whole company just walks in everyday and just builds what ever they feel like. You have delivery dates for parts. You must have build schedules for these rifles by now or how could you correctly come up with a retail price? If vendors don't deliver just say so. FIND new ones if the ones holding you up suck!!! Nothing you guys could be building could be more important to the bottom line of your business then saving your name as a customer service oriented company. Look at POF. I currently own one but thier name around the net is mud. Holding up customers for years is a piss poor way of doing business! You have not done your business any favors by doing this. I do understand this is probably a money issue not a production issue but you had to know that before going into this rifles production. With the big buying frenze last year you should have had the all the extra capitol needed to finish all production, but as near as I can tell you chose to invest in other new production items and have just left the 7.62x39 customers hanging. Build the freaking rifles man! Customers have been waiting and they don't like it! I don't know is not an exceptable response!!! If you don't know how do you operate a business and pay bills and payroll on I don't know?

KAC is discussing rolling out their SR47 at some point in the next 2 years. I'd laugh my ass off if they beat RRA to market.
HUGE for RRA right now with this weapon not being available for purchase. HUGE. |
|
It'll be out very shortly.
Had several at SHOT in different configurations than we've shown before (but not available until the other models are shipping). Steve/RRA |
|
|
It will be. We didn't make a l lot of progress on any of pending new product releases throughout 2013. There was a lot of activity behind the scenes, but the majority of the years was completely dedicated to filling orders for existing orders/back orders. we were ready for and holding our own on the initial Obama reelection order surge, but the response to the Sandy Hook shooting was unprecedented. Now, with that huge surge largely behind us we're finally getting back to where we expected to be roughly a year ago on the new product releases.

I heard a couple of weeks ago that the LAR-47s were to start shipping "within 2 weeks" so my obvious question is thus, "have they?"
Thanks.... |
|
That was my "mistake". I mentioned that at SHOT based on the information I had just before leaving for the show. An QC/QA issue was discovered in a significant component that cam ein at approximately that time, and they were all returned to the vendor while we were at SHOT. They're being remade now, but I don't have an exact date for when the new parts will be in-hand.

I would much rather make it a little later and right than a little sooner and not right.
So if that's my black eye, I'm okay with that and will wear it proudly. Steve/RRA |

If they come out, work right, and are priced right, this will be a game changer. I doubt anyone will remember the delays. It isn't like it is easy bringing this complicated a product to market.
Hopefully this works, sells well, and we can see a 5.45 version too. With as retarded as AK prices have gotten in the past few years, an AR that runs well on 7.62X39 will be a no brainer. |

we made a few improvements here and there while waiting on the remade parts, Everything should be in-house and the rifles in production/shipping by Mid May per my past discussion with ownership and Purchasing (which dictates Production Control).
Steve/RRA. |

Report please!! People want to know what to expect!!!! I'm buying the first one I can get my hands on!!!!! I've been waiting for this!!!

Coming very, very soon.
I'll post here as soon as they're shipping. Steve/RRA |

Shortly is the best answer I have right now. Waiting on a couple of vendors for new parts, and once received and QAed we should be ready to go. Bringing any new product to market is always an interesting experience for a little while at the beginning. Once you get a flow going, it generally gets a whole lot better and product ships according to plan.

"Shortly" is a relative term given how long this has been in development. I'm sure we all appreciate the updates, and I'm sure we all really appreciate you making it right before shipment. So when you say shipment will be "shortly"… are you thinking June, July….etc? Just looking for a tentative month that will hopefully not shift to the right.
Thanks again for the updates. Andrew |

View Quote No-actual CNC-equipped manufacturers with orders from us in place for months, but also have orders from other clients who they are also trying to satisfy. I can't make excuses for them,,they're late on deliveries. But cancelling with them and going to a different shop would set the project back a lot further than waiting impatiently for them to deliver. We would rather be building and shipping the LAR-47s now also. Steve/RRA |

Still excited about this. I suspect one of my 5.56 rifles will go on the chopping block when these come available.
Just do us a favor and don't pull a Remington letting us buyers be the function testers for the 1st gen, ok? PS - any chance of a LEF-T version? |
|
Really really really want this and the SIG MPX to release. W/ that said I'm VERY VERY CLOSE to resorting to buying an MGI Hydra rifle in the 7.62X39 flavor and then hoping to mod it into a SR47 clone...but if you guys could actually tell us these are shipping I would be more than willing to hold off.
|

As stated earlier, we really want to be building and shipping them as well. Just can't do it without the necessary last few missing components.

We don't foresee them being a shelf-stock item for quite awhile...built to order and shipped immediately after test firing/clean up/packaging.
I have one of the oldest orders so I'm particularly hyped about these finally being this close. Steve/RRA |
|
Makes it sound like I should get a pre-order in...
ETA: Standard ar15 handguards/rails fit these uppers? Assuming the upper receivers were milled out/widened to account for the wider AK mags.
|

Yes. Standard furniture-stocks, grips, CAR-length handguards, as well as many other "regular" AR parts and accessories.

Where's the guns Steve????? This is a joke now! Don't use a crappy supplier that takes years to produce a part, thats business 101! My god it's been years! Literally years!! Not A year but YEARS like multiple! This is stupid! I'm more up set that I have followed this thread for so long and it's become a joke! No one on earth in any kind of real business would be ok with a supplier taking this long to deliver. No one would sign a contract for parts to be produced with out deadlines and normally there are hefty fines for not meeting those dead lines. Enough to hire someone else to produce said parts on the fly to keep production going! Where's the guns Steve? Please explain to us again how these parts can't be made anywhere else in the whole world and have to be made by this one guy on his machines and it takes years to produce them. I really would like to understand because I'm frustrated.

I'm not making any excuses. The facts are what they are.
The rifles will be shipping shortly. I'm sorry that following this thread has become such a burden to/on you. The simplest solution would be to check in every Friday afternoon for my announcement that orders are being filled. You'll be no more than four days behind the curve at any time, and the terrible pressure on you will have been relieved. Steve/RRA |
