Good looking varmint rig.
Were the extra-high rings a concession to the cheek weld you feel comfortable with? It took me quite a while to find the exact height that works for me...ARMS 22M on top of an RRA Scout rail let me get the cheek weld and eye relief I needed. Steve/RRA |
|
|
Yup, I went with Warne Ultra-High QD rings to get a comfortable cheek weld. They put the centerline of my scope at 1 7/16" above the top of the receiver, which works well for me. |

That stock is interesting is a sick kind of way....I imagine it's to keep your rifle legit in CA, but is also of interest to me out here in the Free(ish) World.

I know it looks crazy, but I was sick and tired of not being able to own an AR-15 in California. I was not willing to fix the magazine so I had to design something that was not the CA definition of a pistol grip. I came up with the U-15 stock. My goal was to just make it function, but it is surprisingly comfortable. I spent 4 months working on just the grip area. I have a whole new appreciation for ergonomics, boy do I. In the end I modeled the grip after the grip on the M1 Garand. The stock is made of European Beech wood, and is connected to the lower receiver with a huge aluminum bracket. It is far stronger than any AR stock that connects using the receiver extension. The finish is a textured paint that can take a lot of abuse. The stock attaches to the lower receiver using the same socket-head cap screw the pistol grip uses. The receiver extension is actually an AR pistol receiver extension and uses the standard CAR buffer and buffer spring. I install a foam sleeve from ACE LTD over the receiver extension for the cheek wield. For bench and hunting use, the U-15 is fantastic, and has some great advantages over the pistol grip. For tactical shooting, the grip of the U-15 allows the shooter to completely control the rifle with one arm, and without having to "chicken-wing" the elbow of the shooting arm in order to gain enough leverage to support the rifle using the pistol grip. I didn't intend any of this, it just happened this way. I'm a shooter. I shoot often and I shoot every firearm I own. I designed the U-15 for people who actually get out and shoot their rifles. It functions better than any other California Legal grip or device, and better than a pistol grip in some situations. For Californians who are much more into the tactiCOOL look of their rifles, but never or rarely shoot, my stock is probably not for you. If you do shoot in CA, and you want to have a full function, detacible mag AR-15 that can legally use all full size AR mags, you should try out a U-15. I have sold more than 500 stocks, and even a few to hunters and other people out of state who see the advantages or want to try something different. But yeah, it looks crazy, at least until you shoulder it. Then it looks crazy in a whole new way. -Grant |

When did Rock River start using the pretty blue cases? Is this standard with every rifle or is it extra? When I purchased my 9MM rifle it just came in a standard cardboard box? What about the pistols? Does RRA have a pretty blue box for them too? |
||
|
Almost two years.
The RRA SafeCase is designed to be a lockable shipping and storage case and the rifle is split into upper and lower halves within the case. We do have a blue case for our 1911s (fully assembled), but not the LAR pistols. Response to the case has been mixed...you tend to either love it or hate it, with little middle room. For those with restrictive laws that require that a firearms be either kept locked or dissasembled, it does wonders. For those who want it to be a range case, it isn't very effective as the molded interior doesn't allow for the rifle to be stored with optics, vert. foregrips, etc...installed. Steve/RRA |

Here are a couple of mine. I got into the AR only a couple of months or so ago and am now addicted. My local suggested RRA for the quality for the price and I couldnt be happier at this point.
Coyote (my first) with a Millett 4-16 scope with illuminated mil dot reticle. Seems to be a great scope for the money and some day maybe a Leupold will be in its place and that will go on the target 10/22. Future holds a Magpul PRS stock in place of the Ace. http://www.jimsykes.com/images/ar/coyote01.jpg http://www.jimsykes.com/images/ar/coyote02.jpg And my recently acquired mid length with SS barrel, vortex, Eotech and rifle length rail. Christmas should bring a Magpul CTR stock for that guy. http://www.jimsykes.com/images/ar/mid01.jpg http://www.jimsykes.com/images/ar/mid03.jpg http://www.jimsykes.com/images/ar/mid04.jpg http://www.jimsykes.com/images/ar/mid05.jpg Next I'd like a simple carbine to round out the ranks. But that will have to wait a bit, these two in two months is more than I should have already done. |

Steve: Those are OD Green 320's by VZ Grips. I quite like them over the rosewood panels that came on the pistol.

May I ask what optic is that? That looks like a unertl scope. http://www.alexweb.net/unertl/ the military has used them on sniper rifles particularly the marines. |

I'd like to see some more of RRAs 1911s, I like the looks of your railed models over everyone elses. Looks like a Dawson Precision mount on the dust cover, only it is part of the frame. I think it keeps the lines of that classic design better. Not nearly as homely as some other manufacturers. |
