The ad is for a PSA "rifle kit", not necessarily a PSA (specific) upper. What you got was what was advertised: A PSA kit, which could include any upper that meets the specs they listed.
BTW, those Freedom middy's are fantastic and I'd take that over a PSA (specific) upper any day (except the FN CHF/CL). That kit was a fantastic deal. If I wasn't knee deep in spare parts, I'd have jumped on that myself (I already have the upper you received, and the pencil version of it as well. Love them both).

Okay, thanks for the input, and what you say does seem logical to an extent.
But, my question about how many tiers of barreled upper assemblies, in terms of quality and cost, PSA advertises and sells is still not answered. Here is the link on their website for the various rifle kits they sell and the descriptions are generally pretty specific on the upper. I see 4 tiers of quality and cost... PTAC, Freedom (melonited/nitrided and stainless-steel), PSA (herein lies the confusion) and CHF FN Premium.
PSA Rifle Kits
Most of the ads spell out clearly what kind of barreled upper assembly comes with the kit. I got a Freedom upper but the word Freedom was not mentioned in the ad anywhere, while all the other ads specifically mention what upper comes with the kit. I already have 2 PSA Freedom uppers and when I ordered them the ad specifically said they were Freedom uppers; when I received them the label on the box said PSA Freedom upper, hence no surprises. I also had a non-CHF PSA upper that said Palmetto State Armory on the barrel, and not Freedom. Is there a difference? Are there only 3 tiers of quality now, PTAC, Freedom, and CHF Premium?
I don't disagree about the quality of the Freedom uppers, but I'm still not sure I got what was advertised (at least in terms of perception); had the ad said "Freedom rifle kit" instead of "PSA rifle kit", I would not have posted this thread. Maybe it's just creative marketing, I don't know.
Perhaps the PSA rep can step in and clear this up when they have time...
