Have to admit this is very tempting. It would be very cool to build something from the frame up. Well let me reinterate, it would be cool to handfit somethings on the 1911 without having to file forever. I'm sitting here with a frame and a slide in the cart just waiting on the barrel and bushing to come back into stock. It looks like the barrel itself has come back but not with the bushing. From reading this thread a few times it looks like the bushing needs to be hand fit anyways so I'm not entirely sure if I'm really getting that far ahead by waiting on the bushing and barrel combo to come back into stock. I'm mostly worried about the barrel lugs both upper and lower fitting correctly with the frame. From reading here it sounds like the lugs may just drop in. If that's true then I might just pick up the barrel itself and another bushing from somewhere else since it'll need fitting as well. Anyone find a source for the stainless remington beavertail? Also really trying to keep away from buying a bunch of tools that aren't needed. Anyone that's built one have any recommendations of tools I'll definitely need? If the barrel lugs drop in then I wouldn't need the lower lug cutter, and also the barrel holder to cut the barrel hood. If remingstone beavertail drops in somewhat acceptable then I wouldn't need the beavertail jig either. Thanks guys/gals |

Cdnn lists Remington parts. You can also check gunbroker for used colt parts

While it'd be nice to have a full stainless frame, it's not a deal breaker to be sure. Rather stay away from used parts at this time, worried that they'd be fit to another frame and that they'd have too much taken off to fit. |

I have been waiting on the Barrel & Bushing Combo to come in stock for a long time now also. PSA-are you listening??? |

Has anyone used the psa barrel/bushing combo? If it drops in like the storm lake barrel I'd go with that since saving money would be nice. However, if there's tons of fitting I might just opt for spending a little more, to get away from filing a lot. |

I wanted to fit it, but there is literally nothing to do to it. |

I have to admit it kinda takes away from putting it together, but maybe the less fitting the better for the first project. |

Yea, I'm almost disappointed at the fact that there is very little fitting to be done with the PSA parts. Feels like I'm more or less assembling it instead of actually building it. . I think it just goes to show how much work and effort PSA put into these. Workmanship and quality seem top notch for sure. Makes me excited for their production guns yet to come. Like you said though, probably for the best for the first 1911 project. |

Just received my SS slide and SS frame last week, and everything is flawless! They go together really well, hardly any wiggle room, definitely a bargain for a pretty decent 1911 build. So from reading this forum it appears that either the PSA or the Storm Lake barrel will fit perfectly, anybody drop a Wilson Combat barrel in theirs? If so how much of a PIA was it to fit it? Anybody else run into any issue during their build? Any body get the Wilson Combat Drop In Hammer Sear Combo as seen here-
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TYUHHOY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=SPD4E1RM4PWX&coliid=I15X228LXLEGZS |
|
|
I used the wilson 299s hammer and the wilson sear and it worked great. I used the ed brown barrel and it required some filing around the locking lugs but it also turned out great.
|
|
|
What ejector did you end up going with? Your gun looks sick btw.
|
|
|
I used Ed Brown for the barrel, firing pin stop, and pins. Fusion for ejector and plunger tube. Wolf for all the springs and everything else is wilson combat
|
|
|
just to screw with me more, the barrel itself is the daily deal, quite a good deal at that. I know if I buy the barrel itself,b the combo will come in stock and on sale as well probably the next day...
decisions decisions, the bushing doesn't look too bad to fit, but it is tempting to just drop in probably the hardest part of putting together a 1911. |

I did some smoothing of the sharp edges with sand paper, then I used 150 grit sand paper and worked my up to a final finish with 400 grit. I used a sanding block on the flat surfaces and my hands on the rounded surfaces. I may go over the top of the slide again with a med Scotch Brite wheel to straighten the grain. |

View Quote I would not buy that because a) it is ebay and b) you never know if they are telling the truth. Besides, ordering from Wilson's website is basically the same price. Why take the risk? PSA stated that the frames were cut for EGW grip safeties (.250). I was unaware that Wilson made a GS cut for a .250 radius. |

Will this one work? same thing from WC website... Mike B |

I would not use the WC beavertail on the PSA frame. I had to learn that lesson the hard way... you can browses back in the the thread about my experience with it. My next builds I will use the EGW with out a doubt.

Saw this and thought it may have been a different WC one than you tried, This one states "for .250 radius". Thanks Mike B |

I was in the same boat as everyone else with these Beavertails. I went with EGW. Cost a bit more but it was a drop in for me. It looks great and saved me a lot of work. Hope this helps someone.

I'm using an Ed Brown grip safety, as well as the maxi-well. They seem to fit well when mocking them up, especially the maxi-well, that thing looks awesome. The grip safety will need some blending, but hopefully nothing more than filing and sanding.

I'm apparently looking for the trifecta. I need the stainless slide, stainless frame, and barrel/bushing combo. Crossing my fingers that they'll come into stock at the same time. |

View Quote Will not work, different cut. #298 is a Wilson/Clark frame cut. He has the ebay description wrong. He described it as a ".250" compound radius" .. it is actually a .223" 'compound' radius, but nobody refers to it that way. |

Those of you that are waiting on the stainless....you might consider using all blued parts on the stainless frame and slide. It IMO is a pretty slick looking gun.

dang it, I really wanted to do a stainless set, but I'm starting to wonder if PSA isn't going to restock. Any idea how hard is it to refinish portions of the carbon frame if you need to fit anything? |

Hmm, at this point I'm trying to figure out how this might look. Weirdly the carbon slide, doesn't look any different than the SS slide on PSA. I'm wondering if that's just a picture mistake. This might turn into one heck of a mutt in terms of how it looks... |
