Yesterday afternoon, I contacted PSA via telephone to advise that there was an ordering problem with your website. The customer service rep was quite insistent that there was no problem with the website. Wrong.
The problem is that when placing an order for nothing but one or more lower receivers, you cannot get past step 3. The message that keeps coming up is that "there is no quote available at this time."
When I walked your customer service rep through the problem, she struggled to understand this very basic problem and tried to tell me to clear out my cookies. Really, that's the best you can do?
This morning, I tried again and the problem persists. It persists no matter whether I tried to place my order for a receiver using my PSA account or as a guest.
Given that I had received three orders from you last week and successfully placed an order for two built uppers last Friday, I had a strong reason to believe that it is your website and not the cookies on my computer. I tried to order the lower on another computer and via a smartphone, each time getting the same error on step three of the checkout process.
So, I tried the following and had success: I added one item to the order that did not require an FFL. Guess what? The order went through with no problem and Ground shipping immediately popped up as an option when I got to step 3. So, the bottom line is that when you want to buy a lower receiver from PSA, it appears that your website ordering system requires at least one other item to be ordered or else it won't work.
That's a pretty neat trick, especially since you won't accept orders for the receivers over the phone.
It's a great system if PSA's goal is to force people to buy additional things in order to get to buy a receiver. Not so great if you are a customer and just want to buy a lower receiver.
Now, I have a lower receiver on the way (and a pistol grip that I didn't know I wanted until I had to deal with this web ordering system). You might want to have someone look at the website - or not.
