Congrats.
I'm glad that Colt released this variant of the Expanse carbine with the chrome lined SOCOM 14.5" PW barrel, I've already seen some take off upper half on the market now and I'm hoping to get that upper later on for my older Expanse carbine. I bought an early Expanse CE1000 with the non chrome lined medium profile 16" barrel early last year, I'm mainly using the non chrome lined upper half as a range toy and plinker for my other Colt carbines. My Expanse lower half which is exactly the same as a 6920 M4 carbine I'm using with my older 6920 M4 upper half which I bought new in 2011. My Expanse have the same parts as yours (except the barrel assembly) except mine had the Colt low mass match 6 lb hammer and I swapped it with the standard hammer from my other 6721 A3 Tactical carbine HBAR heavy 1/9 barrel. As for the furniture mine is the same as yours except mine had the usual Colt grip with the letter F and a number (2, 3, 4, etc) inside next to the screw hole. Parts that I replaced on my Expanse which are of my personal preference (it worked OK with original factory parts): Colt gold/ copper bolt extractor spring (I kept using the factory black buffer and black O-ring) Colt standard two piece magazine catch Colt H heavy buffer Magpul SL M-LOK FDE handguards Magpul MOE K-2 FDE grip Magpul STR buttstock I'm using my older (made in 2010) with square forge mark detachable carry handle on my Expanse upper half. My standard carbine unmarked buffer worked fine with commercial .223 loads but I replaced it with my spare Colt H marked heavy buffer because I'm also using surplus 5.56 & SS109 ammo, the H buffer works fine with both .223 & 5.56. |

Looks good. BTW My free red dot, riser and PMAG already showed up. They said it could take up to two months, so I was pleasantly surprised by the quick turnaround.

In for pics of the bolt/carrier markings, as well as the lower parts.
Nice bbls, mine shoot great. LE prefix serial number? |
|
Go to the linked thread for more pics, et Cetera.
If you don't see what you want, I'll take more on request. LE prefixed serial number? YES |
|
|
Will compare my 2 today, & take pics; if it quits raining long enough for clear pics...

Linked Thread Updated.
My 6920 Bolt is about 20 years old; came with the AR6920DC Conversion Kit. So, don't remember anything about a white dot on mine; although I do know what you mean. |

Yes, it is a Colt 14.5" 1/7 Chrome-lined Bore & Chamber SOCOM Barrel, P&W Vortex to legal length.

This is too good a deal. I felt on a black one.
Probably going to get an OD one, too. |
|
Just price checked another, & the price is now less than $600, Out the Door: Gallery of Guns.

They are legit M4 SOCOM barrels from Colt. There was a surplus of the barrels and they have been using them where they can to get them out of inventory. Typically those barrels cost a bit more than the thinner profile barrel, so it is a nice little bonus

Just picked up 1 black, 1 FDE and 2 OD's for $539 shipped each. Helleva deal.

Where is the cost cut on these? BCG?
Seems like Colt lower, colt SOCOM barrel, square forge upper at least, it'd be an expensive rifle. Do these have the different trigger? Non colt BCG? |

The reason for the cost savings is that they are not assembled at the Connecticut factory by labor union workers who cost significantly more per hour.

Sancho, can you verify if it comes with the 4 pos receiver extension and riveted mag catch? I've read your threads on several forums, but couldn't find anything.
|
|
Mine came with a 6 Pos'n Tube.
The mag catch will have to compare. Non Colt A2 Pistol Grip, an easy fix. |
|
CDDN Investments has a load of Colt Compettion parts that they are flipping.
Among them a "Colt 4 pos receiver extension" for $15. Just a heads up, draw your own conclusions on quality. |
|
Is there anywhere with the regular non cerakote receivers in stock?

Oops, they are out, too. |

Buds has these for around $547 which makes them the best deal on a new colt out there! Colt ODG $546
Sure they have some iffy parts but overall you get a good barrel, receivers, and some other small parts. The FCG may/may not be shit but who cares because who really uses those anyway? If you strip it down to what it is they are a better deal than the 6920OEM models. |
|
Any word on the mag catch? Brownells has a sale going on today and I'm about to pick up all the Colt Parts to replace the 4 rifles I have coming.

I picked up my green one today from my FFL. Total cost was $557 after all fees so its definitely a bargain.
We will start at the stock. The stock is your standard M4 stock. It has a cage code 4U486 which is P&S products which is a .mil supplier. The extension is a 6 position extension. Grayish/black anodizing matches my carry handle Lockring is polished blue looking and is staked in place. Standard grey buffer BC has no marking on it. Heavy phosphate finish and chrome lined bore. Properly staked M16 profile Bolt has MP marking but thats about it. Magazine catch has the hole on the outside as shown above as being Colt. My other colt lowers match that. Hammer has an S and an S on it I think. Looks ok but heavily greased. Notched style not the competition style I have read that comes in these. Bolt catch on the topside is definitely not a colt one. almost blued instead of anodized in color. Upper has M4 ramps and an O forge mark. No C stamped in it and no M4 or 4 on the front 7-hole thin carbine hand guards (I didn't even know they still made these). 14.5" barrel from Colt, perm attached FH. Nicely done Colt aluminum 30 round magazine. Overall for the money spent its a good deal. I think it would part out for more. Trying to catch a bargain on the KAC M4 rail and will probably throw it in the back of the safe. It would make a great workhorse for someone. If they still have them in a week or so I may order another one. There is also the rebate. Basically the red dot does not interest me so its about seeing if a magpul magazine is worth the effort. |
|
Rebate can be done on line with an iPhone in about 5 minutes.
I figure the Red-dot will eventually go on a .22... |

View Quote 3 of my barrel assemblies are on their way to ADCO. Removed all 3 garbage flash suppressors. |

Anyone that bought a heavy barrel expanse, have you shot it yet? I got mine dirty for the first time today. I threw a Colt carry handle rear sight in it. It took 30 clicks left of mechanical zero to get it dialed in...which only leaves me 13 clicks until it it hits max left. It was consistent with two different ammo lots. That seems excessive to me, so I'm wondering if anyone else has shot there rifle. I have a second carry handle...just didn't have it with me during range time. I will probably swap sights and try to eliminate that as the issue later next week. If I'm still that far from mechanical zero to get it dialed in, what do you say? Live with it? Send it back to Colt? My only other real point of reference for Colt is my 6720...took 4 clicks to be on.

No, I don't shoot during hot & humid weather.
Yours is within spec; but, trading handles to get it closer to center will prolly make you feel better. |
